‘Longmire’ Season 5 to Premiere on September 23; Rumored to be the Last as Walt Longmire May Die

Netflix has announced that the fifth season of “Longmire” will premiere on September 23.

Rumors have been rife that the upcoming season will be the last of the crime drama, but the streaming giant has not yet given any confirmation.

To recall, the first three seasons of the show aired on A&E. The network then canceled the show saying that while it does fair well in the rating game, it caters to older demographics.

Fortunately, Netflix picked up the series for Season 4. The online streaming platform gave more freedom for the series to show darker plots and violent scenes.

Despite this, rumors were still rife that the series will be announced. Adding more leg to the speculations was Netflix’s delay to confirm whether the show was renewed for season 5 or not.

This then caused some fans to campaign for the show’s renewal. The online petition was successful and the show was greenlit for its fifth season.

Series producer John Coveny expressed his confidence in Netflix and the show. He says that he still doesn’t see Season 5 being the last for “Longmire.”

The producer says that there’s still a lot of stories to tell and he envisions the show to last until Season 10 on Netflix. Of course, he also considers a lot of factors but says that it’s not really impossible for that to happen.

Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays Henry, also took to Twitter to respond to rumors about the possible cancellation of the show.

The actor posted a photo of himself on the set in what apparently was the last day of filming. Phillips teased fans by hinting that they should all see them next season.

When the show had a panel discussion at the TCA Summer Press tour, not much was said about what fans can expect for the upcoming season.

Viewers have also been clamoring for a trailer given that it will premiere in a month or so.

Fans have noticed that another Netflix series, “Luke Cage” just released its trailer. The show will premiere on September 30, a week after “Longmire” Season 5 premiere.

Last year, the trailer for Season 4 came out two weeks before the season premiere, but Netflix was very generous of details and teasers about the show last year, unlike this year.

One of the major rumors this season is that Robert Taylor’s Walt might meet his demise. Last season, Walt was inside his home with Ally Walker’s Donna, but an intruder interrupts them.

Ecumenical News suggests that Longmire’s death will be because of a confrontation with the intruder in his home.

Some say that the identity of the intruder will be known this
season, particularly in the first few episodes, and that this person has the agenda to hurt Walt.

Movie New Guide speculates that the huge cliffhanger during the Season 4 finale will be answered right away in the Season 5 premiere.

The intruder could be anyone at this point as there are a lot of people who may have an ax to grind against Walt or even Donna.

There are also reports saying that the Sheriff may survive the attack and continue his relationship with Katee Sackhoff’s Vic.

Longmire Season 5

As per Parent Herald, while Donna and Walt’s relationship seems stable last season, it will not last. The former homicide detective will reportedly get in the picture and will have a romantic relationship with Walt.

It will also be interesting to see Walt torn between Donna or Vic in Season 5. Vic has been his longtime friend and knows him so well, while Donna’ arrival gave him fresh break on things and a great sense of positivity.

Another major spoiler the fifth season will reportedly feature is the potential end of the friendship between Robert Taylor’s Walt and Lou Diamond Philips’ Henry.
