Despite the fact that the first season of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” will soon be airing on CW Seed, the web channel of The CW network, there is still no guarantee that the show would be revived for Season 2 on the network anytime soon.
There have been rumors as of late that because of the decision of CW Seed to re-air the 13 episodes of Season 1 of “Constantine,” reports were rife that The CW was priming itself to reviving the show for its Season 2.
NBC canceled “Constantine” in February last year even with a major Season 1 cliffhanger, reportedly because of negative ratings.
As of end last month, however, former showrunner Daniel Cerone confirmed that there are still no talks going on with the producers and network executives of The CW for the rumored revival of “Constantine” for Season 2.
He, however, hinted that it is very likely that The CW was simply priming Matt Ryan to once again reprise his role as John Constantine in at least one of the superhero TV series that shall be airing on the network beginning this fall.
As it is, there are four superhero TV shows that shall be airing on The CW beginning this fall including the Season 5 of “Arrow,” Season 3 of “The Flash,” Season 2 of “Supergirl” after airing its Season 1 in CBS, and Season 2 of “Legends of Tomorrow.”
Interestingly, all four superhero TV shows are based on DC Comics. “Constantine” is also a TV series based on DC Comics so the rumors about the show’s revival for Season 2 on The CW actually have good legs to stand on.
Cameo or guesting appearance?
Matt Ryan as John Constantine guested on episode 5 of Season 4 of “Arrow” in November last year. His stint helped the TV series earned its highest rating during its first half.
That stint certainly excited The CW network officials that reports now indicate that it is possible the Matt Ryan as the Hellblazer shall once again be guesting or making a cameo appearance in at least one of the other superhero TV series on the network, other than “Arrow.”
So it is possible that John Constantine could show up once again either in “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” or “Supergirl.”
Most fans and critics are putting their bets on the possibility that “Constantine” would most likely appear on “Legends of Tomorrow,” more than the other two superhero TV series on The CW although it would not be surprising if the character suddenly shows up there too, notes the Parent Herald.
It can be recalled that even before “Legends of Tomorrow” had its Season 1 premiere on The CW early this year, there were already reports that the second season of the TV series shall already include John Constantine as one of the so-called superhero legends of the show.
Offered to other networks
There are also reports saying that Warner Bros TV, one of the production companies of “Constantine,” offered the show to several networks for its possible revival last year but since the cast members of the TV series were already released from their contracts, details Yibada.
It remains to be seen how the CW Seed would handle fan frustrations in the event that it airs the complete Season 1 of “Constantine” and end again in a cliffhanger.
Since June, the rumors about the resurrection of Season 2 of “Constantine” has started to become a possibility on The CW after the network decided to include the first season of the TV series for a rerun on its CW Seed.
However, former “Constantine” showrunner Daniel Cerone, recently posted on Twitter to indirectly say that fans of the TV series should not get their hopes all too high.
