While most fans of the post-apocalyptic survival horror drama TV series “The Walking Dead” are all eyes and ears on the details on who among Rick’s group did Negan kill during the Season 6 finale using his barbed wire-covered baseball bat named Lucille, that piece of information is only good for the first 10 to 15 minutes of the Season 7 premiere of the show when it airs on AMC in October.
Apparently, the Negan first kill is not even a major plotline in the upcoming Season 7 because if there is a big thing that fans should get excited about in the next season, it is no other than the gigantic, terrifying, and menacing group of enemies called as the Whisperers.
Based on its comic book source material, the Whisperers shall come into play after Rick and Negan’s feud is settled. It is not clear how and when shall Rick and Negan settle their differences or what will be the cost on each side.
The Whisperers wear the skin of the dead and walk among the roamers. They constantly keep their voices down and live like savages.
On the comic books, they blend with the undead and pose a massive threat to Alexandria and the other civilized communities.
For those who have been familiar with the TV series, the Whisperers in the comic book actually resemble the strategy used several times by some of the characters of “The Walking Dead” where they used the guts of the killed walkers so as not to be identified or smelled by the zombies nearby.
A hint of the Whisperers
However, it is still not yet confirmed whether the TV series shall pursue the Whisperers storyline in the comic book since the show has already deviated from its source material.
If and when the Whisperers plotline is followed, then viewers would have more things on their plate for Season 7 other than the already reported characters including Ezekiel, Shiva, and Negan, and places like the Kingdom and the Sanctuary, reports Comicbook.com.
The hint of the Whisperers was already made by Morgan during one episode of Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” when he said to Rick that there are people wearing dead people’s faces.
It could be an indication that during his journey to Alexandria to finally find Rick’s group, Morgan has encountered the Whisperers one way or the other.
As to how it would play out in Season 7 is one of the things that viewers should look forward to when the show returns to AMC on October 23.
Annoying cliffhanger
Both fans and critics of “The Walking Dead” would agree that the Season 6 cliffhanger was quite annoying.
With the massive backlash that the Season 6 finale has brought to AMC, the showrunners have decided to take a different approach for Season 7 by hinting that there would no longer be annoying cliffhangers in the upcoming season, reports BGR.
In a recent interview, “The Walking Dead” creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman said that they have to acknowledge that all responses to the Season 6 cliffhanger are valid. So he definitely had to take note that there’s a seemingly significant portion of the audience that was not happy with the direction they took during the Season 6 finale.
He assured fans that there would be no similar cliffhanger for “The Walking Dead” at the end of Season 7.
He also said that they had never anticipated the uproar that happened on the internet over the Season 6 cliffhanger, which he said was really a hard choice for the showrunners as well.
It has been reported last month that some critics observe that the “The Walking Dead” is holding on to its Season 6 cliffhanger the way “Game of Thrones” did last year with that Jon Snow dead or alive question at the end of its Season 5.
With the show’s participation in the San Diego ComicCon, fans were initially hoping that the cast members and the executive producers would provide a major tease on who is going to be the victim of Negan. Unfortunately, none of that happened at the event.
