With about two months left before the fourth season of “The Blacklist” finally airs, the hype among fans has been growing stronger and stronger. At the same time, we keep getting various interesting bits of news from the set, further driving up the interest of the show’s dedicated followers. So far, it looks like the new season is going to be a blast, and the show is evolving in a great direction.
Among the various news we’ve seen so far, fans are particularly excited for the return of some old characters. Katarina in particular has been enjoying a lot of attention in those discussions, and it looks like the producers are planning to use her character in a very special way. We already saw her in an interesting light in a previous episode on the show, and now the producers apparently want to explore her personality even more, and flesh her out as a full character on the show.
We don’t know much about her actual presence in season 4 though, so it’s possible that her role is actually not that major. Still, even knowing that she is going to appear in one or more episodes was great news to many fans of the show. As can be expected, many immediately started probing around for possible hints on Katarina’s appearance, but the producers of the show have been keeping their lips tightly sealed so far.
On the topic of Katarina, we will also see Red’s character explored in a lot more detail in this season too. The last time we saw Katarina, it was in a vision Red was having, so the connection between the two characters gives the writers a lot of freedom for making them both even more detailed. Fans are, for the most part, confused by some aspects of Red’s character, and the producers can definitely do a lot to explain their motivations with him in a better way. It looks like the new season will go a great length in that direction.
We will also find out more details about the relationship between Red and Liz too, something else fans have been looking forward to. All in all, it seems like the new season is going to rearrange things a bit, and certain characters might be pushed to the background (maybe just temporarily) in order to give the spotlight to others. But that definitely doesn’t sound like bad news to most fans, who have been hopeful to see some more dynamic changes on the screen for some time now.
That’s because, even though the show has only been on air for three seasons so far, some of its elements are starting to repeat far too often for its own good. It would definitely work in the show’s favor to see some fresh faces in focus, and if the experiment turns out to be unsuccessful, so be it – the producers can always reverse their decision for the next episodes.
Other than Liz, Red and Katarina, there are several mysteries that have been tickling the curiosity of fans and many are hopeful to see them addressed in the new season. But, while we do expect the producers to address many of those critical points, we also expect that they would keep a few things a secret for now. It wouldn’t be wise to reveal all their cards in one season, especially if they want to keep their opportunities open for future seasons of the show.
