The second half of the Canadian-Irish historical drama TV series “Vikings” on the History Channel was supposed to return last month since it was previously reported that it will air after the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones” on HBO.
Apparently, there is more to the programming changes of the History Channel than ensuring that the second half of Season 4 of the show does not get to air at the same time as the airing of Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.”
Latest reports have it that Season 4B of “Vikings” shall be airing this coming fall, which only disappointed many of its viewers given the long wait that they have to endure.
The first half of Season 4 of “Vikings” aired from February to late in April this year for a total of 10 episodes.
The second half of 10 episodes shall be completed either late this year or early next year depending on the holiday programming of the History Channel.
Major changes in the show
The cast and executive producer of “Vikings” recently took part in the San Diego ComicCon and they hinted at possible major changes in Kattegat in Denmark.
While the death of King Ragnar Lothbrok has been rumored long before the Season 4 of “Vikings” premiered early this year, it looks like the second half would finally make it a reality.
Based on the official trailer of Season 4B of “Vikings,” it somehow showed the sons of Ragnar looking to avenge the death of their father in the hands of King Aelle of Northumbria.
Historically, it was King Aelle of Northumbria who killed King Ragnar after he threw the Norse hero into a pit of venomous snake.
According to Game & Guide, the sons of King Ragnar are destined to avenge their father’s death. The video showed Ragnar being loaded into a cage and fans have been speculating that he would be taken to King Aelle of Northumbria.
Based on Norse history, upon learning the death of their father’s demise at the hands of King Aelle, a bloody attack will be led by Ivar the Boneless on England and kill the King that killed their father.
Still battling in international wars
Before his reported demise, King Ragnar shall be going on pivotal international battles that will change much of Western history, notes the Parent Herald.
The teaser of Season 4B of “Vikings” that was highlighted during the TV series’ presentation panel also focus on the reintroduction of King Ragnar’s grown sons including Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd Snake-In-The-Eye, and Ivar the Boneless.
According to reports, the relationship between Ragnar and his sons shall be explored in the second half of Season 4 of “Vikings.”
Executive producer Michael Hirst also revealed during the ComicCon that Ragnar Lothbrok has a death wish, but no more than being part of the belief that a significant death for a significant cause is a good death that warrants a ticket to Valhalla.
There are also reports saying that Rollo, played by Clive Standen, will also resurface in the second half of Season 4.
The previous reports said that “Vikings” will return to the air last month after taking nearly a two-month hiatus to allow the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” to complete its Season 6.
However, the latest rumors are now saying that the premiere date of the second half of Season 4 of “Vikings” might be delayed in the latter part of this year. History Channel has yet to make an official statement or announcement so the rumored delay is merely speculation at this time.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting the outcome of the confrontation between King Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons following his return after his defeat at the hands of the Parisians and his brother Rollo.
Ragnar has been left demoralized with the defeat and upon his return to Kattegat, he found out that the people have lost faith in him. He then went on to challenge his sons and the villagers to kill him and claim themselves as kings.
