A worthy sequel
“Rise of the Tomb Raider” is actually the worthy sequel to the 2013 video game “Tomb Raider,” which is a reboot of the “Tomb Raider” franchise.
It was officially announced in June 2014 during the E3 2014 and was released on the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 in November last year. It came out to the PC in January this year. Its worldwide debut on the PlayStation 4 is already set this coming October, which means that the Xbox One gamers had an 11-month head start with their PS4 counterparts.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics, “Rise of the Tomb Raider” follows the story of Lara Croft as she ventures into Siberia in search of the legendary city of Kitez. In her quest, she would battle a para-military organization that intends on beating her to the city’s promise of immortality.
The game is presented from a third-person perspective and it focuses on survival and combat. The player may also explore the game’s landscape and various optional tombs.
Camilla Luddington, who plays Jo in the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC,” is also returning to lend her voice to Lara Craft.
A widely-accepted game
Immediately upon its release to the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 in November last year and subsequently in the PC some two months later, “Rise of the Tomb Raider” became an instant hit and was received with positive reviews for its graphics, gameplay, and characterization.
In fact, it went on to become the best-selling Xbox One game during the Christmas week last year and had sold over one million copies by the end of 2015.
Game developer Crystal Dynamics also released additional contents including a new story campaign, a new gameplay mode, and new outfits and weapons for Lara Croft.
The game features a crafting system to enable players to create items like different arrow types by scavenging materials from plants and animals in the game’s harsh environment.
