The Season 4 finale of the American family drama TV series “Switched at Birth” ended with a big cliffhanger where Bay Marano, played by Vanessa Marano, and Daphne Vasquez, played by Katie Leclerc, received a phone call in China asking them to come home to Kansas.
Reports have been saying that the reason why the two teenage girls will return home is because the call has something to do with John Kennish, played by actor D.W. Moffett, and Kathryn Kennish, played by Leah Thompson, pushing through with their divorce plans, cites Movie News Guide.
The title of the premiere episode of Season 5 is “The Call,” which only reinforced speculations of the possible decision of John and Kathryn to sever their marital ties for good.
However, there are also speculations saying that the reason why Bay and Daphne are being asked to return home is because of the deteriorating health conditions of John. In fact, there are even absurd rumors saying that John could meet his demise in Season 5 of “Switched at Birth.”
Love conquers all
But it seems that the rumors are merely just that, rumors. Because what seems clear is that the 10th and final episode of “Switched at Birth” entitled “Long Live Love” will mean that John and Kathryn will eventually have their happy ending.
In a recent interview, D.W. Moffett pointed out that despite the initial storyline of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth,” referring to the divorce proceedings between his character John and Kathryn, it seems that the couple shall be able to patch things up and give their relationship a go.
With the episode title of the Season 5 finale, which is also the last for the show, it is clear that John is not going to die in the TV series.
In fact, Moffett said that his character will become stronger as the plot of Season 5 moves forward, which means that he could be referring to his character’s physical condition.
A satisfying conclusion
Critics also believe that the episode title of the series finale is a good sign that no one is getting divorced nor die in “Switched at Birth.”
Executive producer Lizzy Weiss has previously been quoted as saying that the fifth and final season of the TV series on Freeform shall have a satisfying conclusion and would give the viewers a feel-good feeling, in the end, notes The Bitbag.
Incidentally, episode 2 of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” is entitled “This Has To Do With Me,” which shall be directed by D.W. Moffett.
The TV series is set to air on Freeform on January 2017 but the network has yet to announce a specific date for its Season 5 premiere.
Apart from tying all loose ends, Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” on Freeform shall feature several returning stories from the previous seasons, reveals actress Vanessa Marano.
It could be recalled that during the Season 4 finale, Bay and Daphne started living independently in China as they take on new jobs. However, the cliffhanger showed that they got an emergency call at home asking them to return to Kansas in the US.
This means that the Season 5 premiere in January 2017 will already see both Bay and Daphne back in the US answering to “The Call,” which happens to be the title of the first episode of “Switched at Birth” Season 5.
A few weeks ago, Vanessa Marano also said in an interview that the Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” will see Bay and Daphne evolving further as individuals since they already explored the possibility of living independently in new places.
Showrunner Lizzy Weiss revealed in a recent interview that the finale episode of Season 5 of “Switched at Birth” shall take place at the Kennish home.
