Rise of the Tomb Raider Confirmed for PlayStation 4, Attracts the Attention of Naughty Dog Director!

“Rise of the Tomb Raider” has been out for a while already, and gamers on the PC and Xbox have had a chance to go through the game and explore it in detail. And while the initial release skipped the PlayStation 4, it was recently confirmed that the title is also coming to that platform in October. In the end, everyone who’s had an interest in trying out the latest installment in the franchise will get their chance.

Of course, after so much time has passed since the initial release of the game, most players would expect to get something extra on top of the original experience. And that’s exactly what they’ll get, as “Rise of the Tomb Raider” for the PlayStation 4 will come with a brand new chapter in the story, called “Blood Ties”. In addition, all previously released additional content for the game will be included in the base purchase, so there will be no need to buy extra pieces of DLC.

Not only that, but there will be brand new cosmetic bonuses and even things like weapons added to the new PS4 version of the game, so it might even make sense for players who’ve already gone through the entire title to fire it up again. Provided, of course, that they have a PlayStation 4 lying around.

Possibly the biggest bonus in this release is the inclusion of a co-op mode, something which is currently the subject of many discussions among players. It was a great idea to add this type of mode to the game, and “Tomb Raider” has always been the kind of franchise to predispose to that. Some players probably remember the spin-off titled “Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light”, which put players in pairs trying to complete levels filled with puzzles.

There will be some throwbacks to the past of the franchise as well, with outfits matching those of Lara in the very first releases. All in all, it should be a great trip down memory lane for dedicated “Tomb Raider” fans.

The initial decision to skip the PlayStation 4 with the launch of this game was met with a lot of criticism by dedicated fans. After all, this franchise has its roots in the PlayStation (and PC too), so it was a bit of a strange move by the publisher. Still, all is well in the end, and it’s better that we’re getting a PlayStation 4 release late than to have never gotten it at all.

Meanwhile, Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog seems to have noticed something peculiar about the latest promotional art for “Rise of the Tomb Raider”. The creative director for the studio posted a picture comparing the cover art of the game with that of “The Uncharted Collection”, pointing out some suspicious similarities between the two. At the same time, he admitted that it was all a joke as he would still play the game on his own PlayStation 4 once it releases.

Some players have also pointed out the slight irony in his post, as “Uncharted” was largely inspired by “Tomb Raider” in the first place. It can even be argued that the former franchise would have never gotten the green light if it wasn’t for the success of Lara Croft’s adventures. But in the end, that’s an integral part of the way the industry works, and players are well aware of the constant copying and inspiration that’s going on.

  1. Considering it had a years exclusivity deal on the xbox (before it would be released on PS4) that most people knew about, Tomb Raider being ‘confirmed’ for the PS4 is old news.
