The confirmation that “The Elder Scrolls 6” is in the works was huge news for many, especially those who’ve been following the huge flow of rumors about the game in the last few months. It’s no secret that many people would love to see this title made, but Bethesda have been keeping very quiet about it. Recently, the studio did admit that the game was in their plans – but apparently, it’s a low priority project for them at the same time.
Additional comments revealed that the game isn’t actually in active development right now, so it’s not clear when we should expect to see any news about it. This doesn’t mean that the studio hasn’t done any work on it already though – it’s perfectly possible that “The Elder Scrolls 6” has been in development for some time and was put on pause to make way for another project.
Which, at this time, is obviously “Fallout 4”. The post-apocalyptic shooter-RPG has been occupying the studio’s time almost fully from what we can gather, and their developers are busy releasing patches and new content for the game. It looks like there is still more work to do on that front, so the team might not get back to working on “The Elder Scrolls 6” that soon.
Some fans have pointed out that there doesn’t have to be any major overlap between the teams working on the two games, and while that’s true, we don’t really have any idea how things are run behind Bethesda’s doors. It’s possible that the teams are indeed split, but the studio has decided to allocate resources to one project for the time being.
We also don’t really know what the new “Elder Scrolls” game will bring to the table, although there has been no shortage of rumors for that. From better combat to building capabilities and expanded dialog options, people seem to have lots of desires for the franchise’s future, and some of those have manifested as rumors around gaming forums.
One thing that most people definitely don’t want to see carried over from “Fallout 4” is the dialog system – even though the game has been a major source of inspiration for ideas for “The Elder Scrolls 6” otherwise. Players were generally displeased with how Bethesda handled this aspect of “Fallout 4”, and the studio even admitted that they had miscalculated things with the system. It’s likely that they won’t go back to it in the future, but we don’t know if they won’t choose to replace it with something even more unusual.
Allowing players to customize their weapons might not have a place in “The Elder Scrolls 6” at a glance, but the system could actually be implemented quite successfully with some tweaks. Instead of adding attachments and changing components, players could use magic to add special qualities to different parts of their weapons, allowing them to make them function exactly how they want.
A bit more exploration would also not be a bad thing, considering how vast and expansive the franchise used to be in the beginning. The games have shrunk somewhat recently, but that’s understandable considering that there is a lot more to render on the screen now. Bethesda have still done a fine job maintaining their worlds sufficiently large though, and hopefully they are going to give us something even more amazing with the next “Elder Scrolls”.
