It has already been confirmed by the showrunners of the American crime drama TV series “Narcos” on Netflix that its Season 2 shall see the death of Columbian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, some 18 months after his escape from La Catedral Prison.
According to latest reports, the second season shall not immediately zero in on the death of Escobar in Medellin but shall focus more on how the drug kingpin continuously avoided and evaded Columbian authorities who were out to get him, reports the Hall of Fame Magazine.
Pablo Escobar is a notorious drug dealer not only in Columbia but also in the United States. In fact, during his time, he was the one who supplied 80% of cocaine into the American border.
While he is a notorious criminal in the eyes of the Columbian and American governments, Pablo Escobar has established a Robin Hood persona for the poor people of his hometown of Medellin.
Even recorded history would clearly point out that Pablo Escobar was often seen interacting with the unfortunate citizens of the almost neglected Columbian city.
When Cesar Gaviria became Columbian President, Escobar was detained in La Catedral. But given his stature, he was still able to facilitate his drug smuggling operations in jail.
During the attempt of the government to move him to another prison back in 1992, Escobar managed to escape and he has been the subject of a manhunt since.
Late in 1993, the Columbian National Police learned of his whereabouts and launched an assault against him. But Escobar did not go down without a fight. He fled his pursuers by heading to the roof with his two bodyguards who were eventually killed, followed shortly by his death.
Executive producer Eric Newman said that they are trying to achieve in “Narcos” a sense of realism. He said that they originally intended to recreate the death scene in the actual location where Escobar was shot, but the current tenants of the house refused them, which only means that the people of Medellin still view Escobar with much respect.
All-out promotion
Netflix has gone all out to promote the upcoming second season of :”Narcos” and even went to the point of spoiling for the fans of the TV series the death of Pablo Escobar on the show’s social media accounts, notes The Bitbag.
The showrunners are very proud in particular about the filming of the death of Pablo Escobar, which was not an easy picking for the show producers.
It seems likely that Netflix would soon be releasing an official trailer of “Narcos” Season 2 which is likely to return to the small screen in August.
It is expected that fan enthusiasm and anticipation will heighten all the more with the release of the show’s official trailer,
A vigilante group not cops who killed Escobar
It has been reported that the death of Escobar will be at the hands of the Columbian National Police over at Medellin, where he has gone into hiding after his escape from La Catedral Prison some 18 months earlier.
However, there are reports going around that “Narcos” Season 2 shall look closely into the killing of Pablo Escobar and who are actually involved in his death.
If it would be based on history, Escobar was shot dead by elements of the Columbian National Police. However, there have been soundings from those who have personally witnessed the killing of the drug kingpin saying that a vigilante group known as the Los Pepes was actually responsible for the slaying of Escobar.
Los Pepes is short for Los Perseguidos por Pablo Escobar, which is People Persecuted by Pablo Escobar. According to the stories of some Columbian nationals, the group was the one who killed the famous drug kingpin.
Reports have it that Season 2 of “Narcos” shall not only recount the horrid details of Escobar’s slaying, it will also elaborate on his attempts to avenge the blood of his people.
