Superhero stories are always cheaper to do in the comic books than in an actual live filming for a TV series or a movie. In addition to the actors needed to recreate the scenes or the storylines in the comic books, much of the work is in the logistics because a lot of things have to be considered.
There have been reports following the conclusion of the second season of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” on The CW last month saying that the show would most likely feature the Flashpoint storyline in its upcoming third season.
Flashpoint was a five-issue comic book miniseries released in 2011 and written by Geoff Johns.
The storyline was composed of 61 issues that crossed over with “Booster Gold” and resulted to several more miniseries and one-shots, even as the main miniseries spanned over five issues.
In the story, Barry Allen wakes up to an alternate world where he has no powers, his mother never died, and there are twisted versions of the superheroes he has come to know and appreciate.
In that world, the earth was on the verge of complete destruction when Aquaman and Wonder Woman battle each other by pitting the Atlanteans with the Amazons and the humans trapped in between.
Barry takes it upon himself to stop everything and discover what alteration was made in the past that has created the dark world of the present.
He needs to restore back his powers in order to travel back in time to undo the drastic changes that happened. It turned out that one of the main reasons is because Barry saved his mother from dying and the resulting dark side of the world emanated from it.
The Flashpoint miniseries was also important because it changed the status quo for the DC Comics Universe which led to “The New 52.” The story was even adapted in 2013 on the animated feature film “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.”
How the Flashpoint rumors started
The classic comic book storyline became imminent following the shocking Season 2 finale of “The Flash”
During the concluding episode of Season 2 of “The Flash,” Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin, traveled back in time to save the life of his mother. However, his trip created a time paradox where everything that has happened in Season 1 was erased, leading fans to believe that the superhero series will start on a new slate and adapt DC Comic’s Flashpoint storyline, details TV Line.
Actor Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon in “The Flash,” practically confirmed the rumors when he said during an interview that there is every chance of a Flashpoint paradox in the TV series.
He explained that while some people are having reservations about that, some people think it’s a good idea. Valdes said that wherever the show goes from the Season 2 finale, it is going to be unique and it is going to be different because it is going to honor the original chronology and the original lore while putting a new spin on it.
He said that it’s the same kind of spirit that allowed “The Flash” and other TV shows based on DC Comics to do well as they do on the small screen. He then asked fans to just trust and have faith in the showrunners and writers of “The Flash.”
The bigger question now for “The Flash” producers is how long they would play the Flashpoint storyline in Season 3 assuming that they would go for it.
