The 18th and final episode of Season 3 of the American historical drama TV series “Reign” shall air on The CW on June 20 and it promises a showdown between Queen Mary, played by Adelaide Kane, and Queen Elizabeth, played by Rachel Skarsten, as the former makes a bold move to defend her reign in Scotland.
Fans would really love to see Mary emerging victorious in her looming battle royale with her cousin in the Season 3 finale episode entitled “Spiders in a Jar.”
The final episode shall also feature Lola, played by Anna Popplewell, being accused of a heinous crime in England and suffers the consequences for it.
The synopsis of the episode also said that Catherine de Merci, played by Megan Follows, of France will find that Charles, played by Spencer MacPherson, has returned as a changed man after paying a price for his mother’s unrelenting quest for power, details the Christian Times.
Raising the stakes higher
Over the past couple of episodes of “Reign,” Queen Mary was featured trying to get back to her homeland.
However, her return came with a lot of challenges as her ship sank, she was almost killed by a rival clan, and the Scot monarchy was almost dissolved.
She managed to overcome all the obstacles and return to Scotland just in time even as Queen Elizabeth sent the English troops to invade the country.
While Elizabeth eventually learned later that Mary is alive, she would not recall her troops back. It looks like Mary will give her cousin the payback she deserves when she starts defending her crown that would lead to a war between the two queens and the two countries, notes the Ecumenical News.
Critics believe that the stakes have never been higher for Mary and she never looked more fired up as she does in the trailer for the 18th and Season 3 finale episode of “Reign.”
The trailer featured Mary looking out at a scenic valley in Scotland and telling her army that she has returned home to lead her country to greatness. The clip also showed one man who is not convinced of Mary’s capability to lead her people. The Queen of Scots asks him to help her unite her people and also told him that if he does not help her, only God and the Queen shall have mercy on his soul.
A cliffhanger for Season 4
While the war between the two formidable queens is now looming, many of the fans and critics of “Reign” believe that it would not be shown on June 20.
They all believe that the battle would be left as a cliffhanger for Season 3 and shall be used instead to open Season 4 when the show returns to The CW in the fall of this year.
Another thing that fans would like to find out is whether Bash, played by Torrance Coombs, would be killed or wounded in the Season 3 finale.
It has already been reported that actor Torrance Coombs will leave the show after Season 3 as he shall be playing the lead in a new TV series on ABC entitled “Still Star-Crossed.”
The actor remains open to the possibility of coming back to “Reign” sometime in the future if he is given the opportunity, which only means that Bash would not be killed in the upcoming Season 3 finale.
Meanwhile, speculations are also rife that the fourth season of “Reign” shall see the Queen of Scots having a lot of suitors vying for her heart.
There are even reports saying that Queen Mary might finally get married in Season 4 of “Reign.” However, all these remain as speculations until the showrunner or the cast members confirm or deny them.
Back in the 16th episode of “Reign,” Mary was shocked to find out that the country she used to live in has turned into a treacherous world.
