2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Base Model, Cheaper by Almost $1,000 with its 2016 Predecessor!

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will start hitting showrooms this coming summer and some enthusiasts are reportedly savoring the news that the base model of the new E-Class sedan called the E300 will be cheaper than the 2016 E350 model.

Accordingly, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300 shall be priced at $53,075 including destination, which is exactly $950 cheaper compared to the 2016 Mercedes-Benz E350 which is being retailed for $54,025 including destination too, notes the Motor Authority.

While a $950 is hardly a big deal in a luxury car purchase, many Mercedes-Benz fans still believe that the E300 is quite a bargain.

The E300 will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. It shall be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels only.

The German luxury carmaker has yet to announce the prices for the rest of its new E-Class range but it could certainly go way above $53,075 especially with the reported Sports models and the new generation of Wagon, Coupe, and Cabriolet variants coming up.

Sensual Purity design language

The E-Class is the popular and prolific mid-size luxury sedan that has been the bread and butter of the carmaker based in Stuttgart, Germany over the last nine generations and soon to be 10.

Despite being the moneymaker line in the fold of the German car manufacturer, the E-Class was the last in line among the Mercedes-Benz sedans to get refashioned in the company’s new Sensual Purity design language, which made a remarkable restyling on the S-Class in 2014 and the C-Class last year, reports Car and Driver.

This year, the E-Class becomes sensually purified and it was clearly seen during its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan early this year.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class exudes the signature look for the current generation of medium-sized luxury sedans, which are interestingly larger than before.

Based on previous reports, Mercedes-Benz shall be offering its 2017 E-Class in luxury and sports flavors, with the latter getting a two-bar grille and no hood ornament instead of the traditional chrome grille and stand-up three-pointed star, as well as more aggressive fascias.

A benchmark among luxury sedans

The 2017 E-Class is the German automaker’s mid-size four-door sedan whose larger body is shared with the S-Class and the C-Class sedans. But it is being positioned by Mercedes-Benz as the most intelligent sedan from its lineup.

What’s good about the 2017 E-Class is it shall continue to remain as the benchmark among luxury mid-size and four-door sedans because Mercedes-Benz has really outdone itself by infusing in more autonomous-driving and safety as well as infotainment hardware on the vehicle.

The sedan can now drive almost entirely by itself at autobahn speeds, and can sense the road ahead at US highways speeds when the road itself is in poor condition. The technology is already beyond mere cruise control.

The E-Class is regarded as one of the most important models in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup because it has sold more than 13 million units of the vehicle worldwide since the brand was introduced back in 1993.

Gordon Wagener, Mercedes-Benz Chief Designer, said that their design philosophy for the E-Class was both hot and cold.

He explained that hot means that consumers will fall in love with it and cool means it will feature the latest technology.

True enough, technology is the major highlight of the 2017 E-Class, with the autonomous driving technology as its key driver. The feature can accelerate, brake, and steer the car at speeds of up to 130 mph and can also help the car change lane.
