Recently, Apple made changes to iOS which made the “Pangu” jailbreak obsolete – however, as anyone close to the cracking scene would expect, it didn’t take long for crackers to find alternative solutions for circumventing Apple’s security measures, and a Chinese developer team came out with a new jailbreak tool just last week. According to a cracker prominent in the jailbreaking community, the new tool is safe to use and works properly.
The TaiG jailbreak sparked some controversy when it was launched, as many users were questioning whether the tool can be trusted. It came from a relatively unknown source, being the first major release of the team, which meant that many users were reluctant to execute the tool on their machines. MuscleNerd recently stepped forward to clear up the confusion, however – a well-known figure in the cracking community, he made a post on Twitter in which he defended the TaiG tool, and claimed that users can easily verify themselves that the tool doesn’t do anything suspicious.
It’s worth noting that this tool is currently only available to Windows users, and the development team hasn’t said anything about a potential Mac version in the works. The tool isn’t only limited to iOS 8.1.1 either, as it can also be used with iOS 8.0 and other versions. It’s also reported to work quite fast, and no users have reported any issues with it so far, which seems to indicate an overall very successful release by the Chinese team.
iOS 8.2 is not supported by the TaiG jailbreak tool yet, and it’s not known if/when the team is going to come out with a new version for that.
In related news, iOS 8.1 is no longer being signed by Apple, which means that users on a lower version of the operating system are going to only get the option to update to 8.1.1, skipping the intermediate versions. This is a standard practice for the company, and it more or less matches the life cycle of the previous versions of the operating system. Apple have done a lot of work on the security of iOS in version 8.2, and while the system seems very tightly protected at the moment, it’s only a matter of time before jailbreak tools for it become popular.
Until then, users should stick to 8.1.1 and jailbreak their devices with the TaiG tool, which, as described above, is one of the fastest and easiest jailbreaking experiences of all iOS devices so far. In the meantime, keep an eye on popular cracking blogs for news about an upcoming jailbreak for iOS 8.2, which is probably not that far away at this point.
