It has been reported that the upcoming Season 8 of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” on The CW will be its last. But most fans are actually getting excited than ever because apart from wanting to see how the story in Mystic Falls finally ends, they already got wind of reports that Nina Dobrev will come back to reprise her Elena Gilbert character.
After being absent from the popular show during its recently-concluded Season 7, Nina Dobrev has reportedly decided to come back and finally allow her Elena Gilbert character to have her imminent reunion with Damon Salvatore, played by actor Ian Somerhalder.
As if to tease Ian Somerhalder what he has been missing, Nina Dobrev also posted an image of herself on social media wearing a bikini. According to reports, she made the post to get Somerhalder’s attention, notes the Parent Herald.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder used to be a romantic couple before parting ways. Somerhalder is now married while Dobrev continues to date guys but has not yet found that special someone to finally settle for good.
It was during the Memorial Day weekend when Nina and some of her girlfriends head off to the beach where they played volleyball. She posted a photo of herself smashing the ball and captioned the image with ‘set goals and smash them.’ She also put the hashtag #committosomething.
Not yet confirmed
While the return of Nina Dobrev is still not confirmed, executive producer Julie Plec has expressed her sentiments that she wants the actress to return to the TV series.
The showrunner said that the return of Dobrev could actually pave the way for the extension of “The Vampire Diaries” beyond Season 8.
However, she also said that if the eighth season is going to be the last for the show, Plec said that she still wants Dobrev back for the finale because she wants Elena Gilbert to be there at the very end of “The Vampire Diaries.”
If most fans of “The Vampire Diaries” are hoping and are already looking forward to seeing the reunion of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore, Nikki Reed, the wife of Ian Somerhalder, is getting skeptical about it. Although this could be just part of the rumors to build interest on the eighth and possibly the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” which is expected to return to The CW this coming fall.
More characters coming back
Other than Elena Gilbert, there are also reports that a ton of other characters shall be coming back to Mystic Falls in the upcoming Season 8, which only reinforces the notion that the upcoming season is going to be the last hurrah for “The Vampire Diaries” and that the showrunners would like to end with a bang.
Among the old cast members who are reportedly returning in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 include Jeremy, Carol Lockwood, Katherine Pierce, Lily Salvatore, Lexi Branson, Marie Louise, Nadia Petrova, Tyler Lockwood, Rayna Cruz and a whole lot more, reports Game & Guide.
In addition to the returning characters, the upcoming Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries” shall also have a crossover with the upcoming fourth season of its spin-off TV series, “The Originals” also on The CW.
Plec revealed that they are interested in having the characters of Elijah and Klaus Mikaelsons from “The Originals” to do a crossover for the final chapter of “The Vampire Diaries.”
She said that she wants to take advantage of how the two shows are so connected with one another.
In a recent interview, Plec said that it is a rare luxury to have two shows in a shared universe that they could actually do that in two top-rating TV series. She added that if they would not do the crossover, both shows shall actually be missing a really fun creative opportunity.
