For a while, Samsung claimed that it is streamlining its smartphone offerings so as not to saturate the market and avoid its handsets from competing with one another.
It did well last year toward such end but unfortunately for the Korean tech giant, old habits simply never die.
While Samsung has no problem with its high-end flagship smartphones because it only has two to boot for now – the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, the same cannot be said in the mid-range category where the company seems to have over-saturated the market with its Galaxy series phones once again.
For the high mid-range category, it has the Galaxy A series and the Galaxy E series practically vying for the same market.
A bad business decision
As if it was not a bad business decision, it just did the same in the low mid-range category when it unveiled its Galaxy C series smartphones to compete with the popular and trending Galaxy J series handsets.
Early this year, Samsung launched the 2016 editions of its popular Galaxy J series phones – the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5. But prior to that, a Galaxy J1 was already launched in December of last year.
Both the Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Galaxy J5 (2016) are expected to hit the retail markets this month as its respective predecessors complete their customary one-year market cycle.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) is already expected to run away with the title of the most trending smartphone for this year which was the same title earned by its predecessor last year.
However, for some reason, the Korean tech giant is quietly launching a Galaxy C series smartphone beginning with the Galaxy C5 this month, reports Neurogadget.
Matches the Galaxy J7 (2016) pound for pound
The Galaxy C5 is actually slimmer and lighter compared to the Galaxy J7 but the design of the former appears to be quite controversial as it actually imitates the Apple iPhones and HTC’s flagship One smartphones.
The newcomer mid-range smartphone also has a metal body but it has curved edge back featuring two horizontal lines at the top and bottom, which is actually not an original design idea.
For some reason, Samsung has made the design, capabilities, and features of the Galaxy C5 almost identical to the Galaxy J7 (2016) which means that one might eat up on the market of the other when both smartphones are officially released to the markets this month.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) comes in two possible chipset options – a Snapdragon 615 and an Exynos 7580 octa-core processors. But the Galaxy C5 features a Snapdragon 617 chipset which points to the fact that it is a little more powerful that the Galaxy J7 (2016), processing-wise.
Incidentally, the Galaxy J7 (2016) is also being pitted with the Motorola Moto G4 Plus, which was just launched last month.
Just like the Galaxy C5, the Motorola Moto G4 Plus appears to be a worthy pound-for-pound opponent for the Galaxy J7 (2016).
There are features where the Galaxy J7 (2016) enjoys a clear advantage over the Motorola Moto G4 but there are also features where the Moto G4 Plus is better than the Galaxy J7 (2016), notes Yibada.
Meanwhile, the 2016 versions of the mid-range smartphones of the Korean tech giant, the Samsung Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 have been touted to come out this month, which shall mark one year after their respective predecessors came out to the market.
While their respective specifications, capabilities, and features have already made the rounds on the internet, their prices were not yet officially made available by the Korean tech company.
The midrange smartphones were officially announced in China in March that critics believe that those shall only be made available in the country.
