‘Minecraft’ Phenomenon Continues as Block-Building Game Surpasses 100 Million Sales Across All Gaming Platforms!

There seems to be no stopping the success of the open-world video game “Minecraft” as the game from Swedish developer Mojang has just passed 100 million sales across all gaming platforms including the PC, the Mac, the gaming consoles, and mobile devices.

Since 2016, “Minecraft” has sold almost 53,000 copies worldwide which elevated its total sales figure to over 100 million.

At the moment, more than 40 million people play a “Minecraft” game worldwide each month and tinker around with its blocky ax, shovel, and sword, details Engadget.

Only the classic game of “Tetris” has hit the 100 million mark in terms of sales and “Minecraft” takes the honor of being the second video game to do so.

Critics believe that much of the success of the game can be attributed to the game’s open structure and limitless potential.

In “Minecraft,” gamers can build anything they can imagine using simple and colorful blocks. The game’s focus on creativity is why so many players, young and old, have become hooked on the game and continue to play even after years from its release.

Typical of game developers, Mojang has supported the game with a steady dose of updates that have added new mechanics, creatures, and materials. The game’s flexibility has also made it a smash hit in the classroom, teaching art, geology, coding, and other subjects.

The game developer has expressed its gratitude to gamers for the milestone achievement of “Minecraft” yet again.

In its website, Mojang said that it is offering its heartfelt thanks to everyone who bought “Minecraft” over the past few years, no matter which platform they play on. It added that the company is constantly in awe of the “Minecraft” community and the amazing things that they have achieved. Mojang also said that “Minecraft” gamers are really the best.

More platforms for the game

With the acquisition of Mojang by Microsoft two years ago, many were expecting that things will move fast with “Minecraft,” with some gamers even expecting a “Minecraft 2.”

If any, the entry of Microsoft has made the game available on more gaming platforms than ever before. There is now a HoloLens version of the game, a spin-off adventure series by Telltale Games, and the acquisition of MinecraftEdu, which shall soon result in a new, education-focused version of “Minecraft.”

There are reports that a “Minecraft” Chinese version shall also be rolling out soon exclusively in China.

It is obvious that the popularity of “Minecraft” shows no sign of waning. The strength of the game is not its finite story or its tremendous graphics but its seemingly timeless appeal that catches new children as they grow old enough to play it. And because of such, “Minecraft” will continue to sell in extraordinary numbers.

Improves overall performance

Last month, Mojang released Patch 1.9.4 to the open-world video game “Minecraft” which came on the heels of Patch 1.9.3.

The latest patch actually removes the incorrect snapshot warning gamers when they load the world from the previous “Minecraft” update, Patch 1.9.3.

Patch 1.9.4 brings about improved overall performance of the game and also reduces the memory usage while playing the game, especially when it is being played on servers.

Mojang enumerated the other improvements that Patch 1.9.4 brought to “Minecraft” including improvement in the performance of the chunk cache, less memory for biome caching, severe tweaks to the AI, tweaks to the realm, adds stopsound command, and removes herob.

Minecraft

The recent partnership of Microsoft with Nintendo has enabled “Minecraft” to come to the Nintendo Wii U as well.

Phil Spencer, Xbox boss, has posted on Twitter recently to say that working with Nintendo has been great and he is happy to see “Minecraft” doing so well on the Wii U.

Microsoft bought “Minecraft” from Mojang back in 2014 for a whopping price of $2.5 billion.

  1. The only reason minecraft is getting sales like that, because some people think that the same updates that you see for PC, are going to be on other devices, WRONG. Mojang since you get all the sales you should take action.
