While the revival of “Prison Break” won’t return to television screens until early 2017, Fox has already released the first glimpse of the revival series via an official trailer.
The trailer features the show’s original main cast, including Wentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield, Dominic Purcell’s Lincoln Burrow, Sarah Wayne Callie’s Sara Tancredi, and Robert Knepper’s T-Bag Bagwell.
The trailer quickly established that Michael is actually alive and is in a Moroccan prison. In the series finale back in 2009, the former structural engineer appeared to have sacrificed his life in a bid to break Sara out of jail.
In the upcoming season, it looks like Sara and Lincoln will be busting Michael out of prison with the aid of the original “Prison Break” crew.
It looks like things have turned the other way around for Michael and Lincoln as the premise for Season 5 parallels the show’s pilot season.
The trailer opens with Sara speaking to her and Michael’s son, who asks about his missing father. It then cuts to Lincoln, who receives news from T-Bag that Michael is alive.
A series of clips then follows showing Lincoln paying Sara a visit, putting the old team together, and drawing up plans like they used to. Lincoln’s quest leads him to Morroco, where he locates his brother.
He then walks up to Michael and promises that he will get him out of there. Breathecast notes that Lincoln and the gang will devise the greatest escape plan ever in Season 5 of “Prison Break.”
Ecumenical News reports that Lincoln will break his brother out of jail by taking control of the power grid. By shutting down the electricity, they may be able to break through some of the security defenses of the prison.
With the trailer’s release, fans are already excited to watch the upcoming season. Fans are looking forward to knowing how Michael survived during the Season 4 finale and why is he behind bars this time.
Apart from the network teasing fans with the trailer, not much is known about the upcoming season. Fox is reportedly keeping everything under wraps as much as possible.
However, fans are wondering whether William Fichtner’s Alexander Mahone will be back on the show. Mahone played a key role in the show since he became one of the most important characters in the series as well as a fan favorite.
Digital Spy notes that Fox has remained tight-lipped over the character’s return. His absence from the trailer also worried viewers that he might not be back for the show.
Parent Herald notes that Fichtner might surprisingly return in the show’s fifth season because of the clamor for his character’s return or he could simply be too busy filming other projects.
However, some reports say that the 59-year-old actor will squeeze in filming his appearance for the revival series in between his upcoming films “Independence Day” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
There are also reports surfacing that the actor requested that should his character return for the fifth season, he wishes some storylines to explore Mahone more.
Meanwhile, filming for the fifth season of the serial drama is now underway in Morocco. According to Melty, Morocco may serve as the show’s filming location, which is reportedly based in Yemen.
The cast and crew have been treating fans by sharing a couple of behind the scenes photos on their respective social media accounts.
What’s keeping fans up to their toes is that rumors that a major character is also bound to meet his or her demise this season.
According to Crossmap, Callies’ character, Dr. Tancredi, is speculated to die this season. Sara was initially set to die during the show’s first season.
