The Incredibles 2 Director Brad Bird to Carry the Momentum of the Success of the First Film, Assures Producer, And More

The sequel to the 2004 animated Disney Pixar smash hit “The Incredibles” already has a playdate of June 21, 2019.

That means that the sequel will come out some 15 years after the original film. For many directors, it would really be a challenge but for Director Brad Bird, who happened to helm the first movie, it would be just a matter of continuing the story he himself started more than 12 years ago.

Even Disney film producer Lindsey Collins is quite confident of Bird doing good in the follow-up movie despite the franchise going on an extended hibernation.

She said that the franchise is in good hands with Bird as the writer and director because he is aware of the huge expectations from the public.

The producer said that despite the pressure to live up to the first movie’s hype, she is almost positive that Brad Bird shall continue and build on the success momentum of “The Incredibles” and use it to fuel his ongoing work for “The Incredibles 2,” notes the Christian Times.

A lot of possibilities

“Finding Dory” Director Andrew Stanton also explained that the ending of the first movie offered a lot of possibilities for a continuation and he is confident that Bird is working on that.

Collins and Stanton made the statements during a recent interview for another upcoming offering from Disney Pixar – “Finding Dory” – which will hit theaters next month. It is the sequel to the 2003 animated hit “Finding Nemo” which means that it shall come out 13 years after the original film.

So they know and understand the pressure on Bird to deliver for “The Incredibles 2.”

Stanton is also a member of the Pixar’s legendary Brain Trust, which means that he knows and helps with stories on every movie that comes through in the production outfit, notes iO9.

He said that based on the first movie, there was a big promise made at the back end. So there’s a lot of potentials to work on from there for a family of superheroes.

Collins also added that what they want is to make the audience feel that five minutes after coming into the movie, they will appreciate being back with the characters and that they will say that they have missed them a lot. She added that just like most of them in Disney Pixar, that is where they want to start from. They simply want the audience to feel that they are happy seeing familiar characters back on the screen.

Setting things in motion

It was Disney CEO Robert Iger who made the announcement in March last year that “The Incredibles 2” is a go and that writer and director Brad Bird shall take on the same roles he took for “The Incredibles” in the upcoming sequel. From there, the director has set things in motion.

Bird also made the announcement late last year that award-winning composer Michael Giacchino will return for the sequel to the hit animated movie shown way back in 2004. He also announced that Samuel L. Jackson will return, or at least his voice that is, for the character Frozone, a superhero friend of the Parr family.

As far as plotline goes, previous reports have been fairly consistent that villain Syndrome will return and that he will come back to become the mentor of Jack-Jack, the youngest of the Parr family. Syndrome shall reportedly nurture the shape-shifting powers of Jack-Jack and turn him against his family including Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, and Dash.

In addition, there will also be the Underminer, who was a mole-like villain who appeared towards the end of the film “The Incredibles.”

the incredibles 2

It is unlikely that Brad Bird will settle for mere old villains or characters if he wanted to make an even bigger and better sequel so there is a good chance that an even tougher villain would be introduced in “The Incredibles 2.”

The bigger question now is who or what is it going to be and it seems that it won’t be revealed until production for the movie begins sometime soon.

  1. Those ideas are considered fake, as the Syndrome/Jack-Jack story comes directly from the Idea Wiki, which can be made and edited by nearly everyone, that’s how these rumors started in the 1st place, plus Bird himself has yet to comment on anything since last year as he’s afraid of posting possible spoilers.

Bird won’t be pulling from fan-made ideas (as most Disney/Pixar producers tends to stick with what made their 1st installment great, which is how we got Monsters University and Finding Dory), I sense this sequel will focus on Elastigirl this time around, since she had the 2nd least development out of the entire family and her background was more or less unexplored.
