‘Attack on Titan’ Season 2 Won’t be Coming this Year! Find Out What’s the Reason for the Delay

The sophomore season of the Japanese anime “Attack on Titan” won’t be coming back this year, reports confirm.

Movie News Guide reports that a Spanish home streaming network, Selecta Vision, has released a statement that the upcoming season of the anime series is experiencing some delays much to the disappointment of many fans.

Selecta Vision explained that upon contacting Kodansha for the rights to air the upcoming season this fall, they received updates that it won’t be airing this year.

The statement from the Spanish provider came as a comment in several SNS and listing sites.

The streaming service notes that Kodansha clarifies that they have already scheduled the release of “Attack on Titan” Season 2 sometime in 2017.

Selecta Vision speculates that the much-awaited season will premiere in January next year. However, these details still have to be confirmed by Kodansha.

A lot of fans have been patiently waiting for the return of the hit anime series as it has already been a couple of years since the first season aired. The series was well received by viewers thus a clamor that a new season would soon follow suit.

Fans initially thought that they were finally getting a second season this fall, roughly three years after the pilot season. Unfortunately, they have to reset their countdown clocks once again and wait a little bit longer.

The first season of the series was broadcast from April 7 to September 29, 2013, on Mainichi Broadcasting System for 25 episodes.

Hall of Fame Magazine notes that this is not the first time the second season has been delayed. Season 2 was initially pushed back due to the insufficient story arc presented in the manga version.

Apparently, it has become a mandate for the creators of the manga to provide more materials before pushing through the series so that the show will still be sticking to the original source material.

The manga series, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, has already been collected into 19 volumes as of April 2016.

The manga series has become a commercial success. As of July 2015, it had sold 52.5 million copies in print, with 50 million copies in Japan and 2.5 million copies overseas.

Vine Report cited that the delay is caused by the lack of material for the upcoming season. Creators reportedly want to create new materials that will cover a season’s worth of storyline.

“Attack on Titan” has been credited for its unique material and great manga plot twists so the reported lackluster material doesn’t ring well with the fans.

Another possible reason for the delay is because producers want to finish four story arcs before they start the show. Kodansha confirmed that they don’t want to go ahead of the manga and the early release of the TV series will do just that.

Reports are now rife about what will happen in the second season. Some speculations say that Season 2 will focus on Eren’s past as it could shed some light into the Titans’ existence.

Fans believe that some episodes will revisit Eren’s old house in order to get some answers. They also hope to see a younger Eren and Mikasa through flashbacks.

Reports say that despite the delays, production for the second season of the hit anime series is in full swing. Just like its previous season, the upcoming season is rumored to contain 25 episodes too.
