You have powered through the first three seasons of Continuum and now you are wondering if there is going to be a fourth season or not. Well, you get to join the very large, expanding group of fans that are all wondering the same thing. The show, which airs on the SyFy network has yet to be renewed or cancelled. Most of the time, if a show is popular enough, it will be renewed before the current season ends. That is not the case with Continuum.
But, does that mean that it will not be renewed at all? No it does not. It could just mean there are scheduling errors, story line issues or the producers are just being very slow about it. The show is based on a police officer from 2077 that is being sent back to 2012 with a group of rebels. The show has plenty of good cast members including Roger Cross, Stephen Lobo, Victor Webster, Jennifer Spence and Erik Knudsen.
In a recent interview, the creator of the show, Simon Davis Barry was asked about the fate of the show based on a Reddit AMA, which he did as a “thank you” to fans. The fan asked if the “thank you” was based on a farewell to the show and the answer was a quick “Hell no!”. When all is said and done, the people that make the call whether the show must go on or not said that a decision will be made very soon.
That is good, because many times when fans of a television series have to wait too long, they take that time to latch onto another series and might never make it back to the show they once loved. Part of the reason that fans were so scared the show could get cancelled was because after season three ended in June of this year, it was reported that year-to-year viewership was down by 30% for the show.
While the numbers are not good, you would still have to think that the creator would not go on and say the show is going to end when it is not. The best part about that is that you do not and will not know until you get the final confirmation from the SyFy network since they are the ones that renew or cancel in the end. According to at least one source, the delay for the decision has been based on finances needed to complete the fourth season.
SyFy isn’t involved in the decision to renew or cancel Continuum. Continuum is a Canadian production of Showcase, a division of Shaw Media. SyFy then decides whether to pay Showcase for the right to air episodes in the US.
It’s up to Showcase to decide whether to renew Continuum or not.
If the series is renewed by Showcase, SyFy would very probably air them in the US. If the series is canceled by Showcase, SyFy has already said that they can’t afford to pick up the production costs.
This is an excellent sci-fi show, which is hard to come by. I think viewership would increase in season 4 because so many people picked it up when it hit Netflix
