The first season of the anime series adapted from the manga of the same title by Hajime Isayama “Attack on Titan” was first aired on the Mainichi Broadcasting System from April 7 to September 29, 2013 before it was re-aired in several local channels in Japan including Tokyo MX, FBS, TOS, HTB, TVA, and BS11.
Since then, fans have been waiting for the second season of “Attack on Titan.” From a planned release date of 2014, it was moved to this year. Now, it seems unlikely that a 2016 release date for the Japanese anime is possible.
Latest reports have it that the premiere of “Attack on Titan” Season 2 is set to be aired early next year. There were even rumors saying that the TV series could air as early as January next year.
It has been reported that the cause of the delay had something to do with the TV series waiting for the manga version to complete four story arcs first before it gets aired.
Kodasha, the manga publisher of “Attack on Titan,” sort of confirmed that reasoning when it stated that the second season of the Japanese anime TV series will not happen this year because the TV show does not want to jump ahead of the manga, details Hall of Fame Magazine.
Confirming the release date
Selecta Vision, the producer of the TV series, also confirmed that “Attack on Titan” Season 2 will not arrive this year but is looking to air the anime in January 2017.
But if it is any consolation to the fans of the anime, a video game version of “Attack on Titan” has already been released to the PlayStation 4 bundled with several perks.
The Sony gaming platform offers “Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom” along with freebies like a selection of avatars that gamers can use while playing on the particular platform, notes The Bitbag.
The Japanese release of the game has a very interesting and different bundle which includes Eren and Levi’s cleaning costume as well as the festival costume of Mikasa.
There are also reports saying that one of the reasons for the delay of the release date of “Attack on Titan” Season 2 had something to do with the game developer’s current work on “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.”
Overthrowing the king
There have been plenty of rumors about the possible plotlines of Season 2 of “Attack on Titan” set to premiere early next year.
According to speculations, Commander Erwin Smith will find out about the king’s real identity so he would work on overthrowing him.
There are also rumors saying that the Reiss family will also discover for themselves that they can turn into Titans. Other members of the team who have the power to turn into Titans include Ymir, Reiner Braun, and Bertolt.
The heroes shall reportedly be surprised when they find out that Reiner and Bertolt are actually the Armored Titan and the Colossal Titan, respectively, who broke the wall.
There are also reports saying that Ymir, Reiner, and Braun will abduct Eren in Season 2 and while trying to save him, Commander Smith will lose his arm that will force him to retire from the job. Eren Yeager might also use his power to identify the coordinates to control the Titans in Season 2.
“Attack on Titan” Season 1 covered a total of 34 chapters from the manga source material that consisted of four story arcs, including “The Fall of Shiganshina,” “104th Trainees Squad,” “Battle of the Trost District,” and “The Female Titan.”
Production for “Attack on Titan” Season 2 has already begun sometime last year but it was halted eventually since the manga source material still needs to get ahead with two more story arcs.
According to reports, there is also a possibility that the anime series may not totally copy every scene of its manga version.
