Samsung Could Release 2 Galaxy S6 Models Next Year

Samsung has been releasing some of the top of the line smartphones and tablets for the better part of the last five or six years now. Since the start of the S-series from Samsung, it has been selling more units per year than most of the competition. OF course, Apple has sold more units than any other company on the mobile marketplace, but that does not mean that other companies are not catching up.

Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is considered one of the most popular Android powered smartphones on the market, as well as the Galaxy Note 4. The Galaxy Note 4 has quickly become the benchmark for other, larger displayed smartphones. Most recently, Samsung released the Galaxy Note Edge allowing the company to stand out a little more from the competition.

This week, rumors sites have turned to whether or not the company will release an “Edge” version of the Galaxy S6. Just like the Galaxy Note did this year, the Galaxy S6 is reportedly going to be released in two variations, one of them being the Galaxy S5 Edge. The Edge model would come with the curved piece of glass similar to the Galaxy Note Edge. The other model will come with the flat piece that comes on most smartphones today and will be considered the “normal” model.

According to various reports online, the curved display has been causing some problems for those that like to hold the phone in one hand and navigate around in that manner. If Samsung changes up the form factor, the feel could change, but otherwise the Galaxy S6 Edge will have the same issues. Other issues have been attributed to the curved display, like accidental activation of apps due to bumping the side of the phone or just touching it with your hand while holding it.

If that is going to be the case, Samsung will have to rethink the software that is used on the user interface. When the Samsung Galaxy S6 is released in two different models, the company is expected to release only a limited amount of the Edge models released. The Note Edge is now available on all mobile carriers in the United States, so the Galaxy S6 would be expected to follow the same road map.

The reason Samsung could be releasing only a few Edge models is to see how the market responds to the new design. The Galaxy S5 did not sell as well as Samsung had hoped it would and the company would hope that does not happen again with the new model.
