‘Homeland’ Season 6 to Contain Storylines Connected to the Upcoming US Presidential Elections

While it will take quite some time before fans get to see another season of “Homeland,” reports are surfacing that the sixth season of the political thriller will contain storylines closer to home, particularly regarding the US presidential elections.

Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison is back in the United States in Season 6 and it’s a big possibility that she will return to her old job in the CIA which could give way for these storylines to indeed materialize on the show.

Although the Season 5 finale showed Mathison declining the offer that Mandy Patinkin’s Saul Berenson made, it looks like Carrie will have a change of heart and eventually work with her mentor again.

Ecumenical News notes that there will still be bad blood between Mathison and Berenson after the latter was not cool with Carrie working in Germany. It will be interesting how these two will patch things up gradually in the upcoming season.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Showtime boss David Nevins addressed these rumors saying that there is a probability that storylines containing elections and other current news concerning the country will be weaved in the next season of “Homeland.”

Nevin was specifically asked if some episodes in Season 6 will have some relation to the Republican nomination of Donald Trump to which the Showtime boss gave a very interesting thought.

Nevins says that “Homeland” tends to use realistic plots and there’s a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team so it’s a huge possibility. He adds that the stories in the show are extracted from real-life experience.

Interestingly, the subway terrorist bombing scene in one episode of Season 5 was shot two days before the Paris bombing in November 2015.

Fans also believe that since Season 6 will premiere in September just like previous seasons, it can tackle current issues the US is facing just in time for the presidential elections in November.

Meanwhile, Season 6 will also focus on Carrie’s love life. Last season, the intel officer almost had a normal life when she moved to Germany.

She had a short-lived relationship with Alexander Fehling’s Jonas Happich and even became the love interest of her boss Otto During, played by Sebastian Koch.

Otto even proposed to her in the season finale, but it looks like Rupert Friend’s Peter Quinn will always be the one Carrie truly loves as she asked for some time to think about her German boss’ proposal.

Quinn was the one who saved Carrie during the times when she was the target of many. Carrie was thankful for Peter’s love, but she never actually got to tell him how she felt about him.

In Season 5, the CIA operative suffered a severe brain hemorrhage after having been exposed to too much sarin gas.

In fact, Quinn had things going the rough way in Season 5. The jihadists who planned to bomb Berlin used him as a guinea pig to bring chaos to the hearts of the citizens.

The last scene in the Season 5 finale showed Carrie at Quinn’s bedside turning off his life support system. It seemed like a touch-and-go situation that the character has already met his demise.

However, the last scene drew a lot of comments with others thinking that the mysterious light that pervaded the room was an implication of Quinn’s death while some thought that it would be the beginning of a major change for the CIA operative.

According to Ecumenical News, fans are now pushing that Friends’ character should still be alive in Season 6, defending that the agent is one of the show’s main characters and his relationship with Carrie is an ongoing central focus of “Homeland.”
