The Tesla Model X SUV was officially launched in September last year and the American electric carmaker promised to have the vehicle in dealerships in October this year.
Last month, Tesla Motors also launched the Model 3 sedan. Comparing the launching of the Model X and the Model 3, it seems that the Model X made a bigger splash in the market.
However, because of its range and very competitive price, the Model 3 is generating widespread interest and people are already looking forward to its release late next year.
It also did not help the cause of the Model X after its official unveiling last year when it encountered some problems or issues highlighted by the faulty falcon wing doors. The company said that the issues are not widespread and are merely isolated cases. It added that the Model X that will be produced and will be released in October this year will not have issues or problems.
Other issues to deal with
However, more than its present mechanical issues, the Model X actually has to deal with the fact that it was launched very late and will come out of the markets already super late.
It was actually Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk who made a pronouncement sometime in 2012 that the Model X would arrive in early 2014. When early 2014 came, the vehicle was still a no-show. Later that year, it was said that the vehicle would finally be rolled out early in 2015. That also did not happen.
Finally, it was unveiled in September last year but its official roll out to the market is set in October this year or almost three years from the company’s promise.
Musk, later on, explained that the Model X has an exceedingly complicated design which contributed to the delay. He was even quoted as saying during the Model X launching last year that he is not sure anyone should have made the car.
Reports also have it that the test drivers of the Model X are experiencing double-vision driving the SUV at night, which is an effect called ghosting. Tesla said that it is already addressing the very few complaints that it is receiving related to ghosting.
While its double falcon wing doors look cool alright, they don’t work as designed in some cases. Again, Tesla said that the problems are isolated and that it is already addressing the concerns of those who made the complaint.
There are also complaints saying that the 17-inch center console of the Model X hangs or freezes occasionally. Tesla says that the problem is in the software and they just needed to reboot it like what is done on a normal computer that suddenly hangs. There are also reports that the hanging is caused by a bug in the software and Tesla said that it is already looking into it and has already come up with fixes for the bug.
A supercar too
Tesla Motors actually make fast cars, which is quite surprising for an electric carmaker. In fact, critics are saying that Tesla does not know how to make slow cars.
In fact, all of its electric vehicles offer borderline supercar-level performance for its price point that’s incredibly reasonable when one looks at how much some of the most expensive cars in the world typically sell for, notes BGR.
With Tesla Motors already ramping up production on the Model X, Tesla’s crossover SUV appear in drag racing videos of its own.
Recently, the Model X P90D in Ludicrous mode was pitted against a Ferrari F430. While the SUV is obviously no match for a race car like the Ferrari F430, it should be noted that the Model X in Ludicrous mode can actually go from 0 to 60 miles in 3.2 seconds as against the F340’s 0 to 60 miles in 3.8 seconds.
