As more information is coming out about the reboot of “Spider-Man”, the story is starting to sound quite interesting. It looks like Marvel are going to use their cast of characters as fully as possible to expand the universe of the new film, and Peter Parker’s superhero won’t be the only familiar face we get to see on the screen.
We don’t know exactly which characters Marvel want to show in this film, but so far we’ve seen mentions of various small cameo appearances. The implication is that Spidey will be well aware of a world of superheroes living and breathing around him, although it’s entirely possible that he never even crosses paths with them. For example, it could make sense for Marvel to show a few heroes in the background as a nod to fans of their Universe, and it doesn’t have to be anything major.
Spider-Man himself will play along by showing up in other Marvel films, the first being the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War”. Perhaps there will be some link between the story of that film and the upcoming “Spider-Man” reboot? Considering that the former film is going to launch in about a month, while Spider-Man will have to wait another year before he’s ready for the screen, this is not a far-fetched guess. “Captain America: Civil War” could give us some hints for what’s to come on the other side of the Marvel Universe.
We’ve seen reports that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have been scheduled for another project after “Civil War”, but no details were given on that. The current line-up of Marvel Studios doesn’t leave many possibilities for which film they might take part in, and unless the studio has something under wraps that they haven’t shown to the world yet, it’s pretty much guaranteed that we’re going to see those two faces in “Spider-Man” in 2017.
Fan responses to these revelations have been mixed, but mostly positive – many agree that Marvel are doing the right thing by trying to integrate Spider-Man into their cinematic universe so deeply, and even though it might not make much sense for some fans of the superhero who’ve been following him since his original iterations, it’s still a good way to advance his story and expand it in different directions.
Plus, it opens up the doors to some amazing possibilities in the future – crossovers between Spider-Man and other superheroes are not unlikely at all at this point, and the creative minds at Marvel are sure to come up with some interesting ways to put the character to good use. There are some combinations with other superheroes that frequently get brought up in fan discussions, and if Marvel are following their fans online, they should have plenty of ideas ready and waiting to implement.
On the other hand, some fans have been critical of the studio’s aggressive push to bring everything to the screen and mix up all their superheroes in this way. Many agree that we’re seeing far too many superhero movies lately, and while they often come with an interesting take on their basic premise, to some fans it still feels a little forced. Obviously Marvel have a right to do as much as they can with their IP and explore all possible venues for their characters, but the studio might benefit from slowing things down a little bit and taking it more carefully over the next few years.
