The popularity of Samsung’s Galaxy line has always been among the highest on the market, not just the Android market specifically but for smartphones in general. The company has always put a lot of effort into promoting their devices and getting even more people on board, and the recent release of the Galaxy S7 was met with expectedly high levels of interest from the crowds. And now, we’ve just seen reports that the device has managed to surpass its predecessor, the S6, in its market performance.
According to reports, the device is estimated to sell between 7 and 9 million units in just its first month, significantly surpassing the popularity of the Galaxy S6. And with that, Samsung can expect a sharp increase in their overall profits compared to the sale of the previous device.
The company started off a bit roughly with the Galaxy line, but it didn’t take them long to get the hang of what people want, and to adjust their strategy accordingly. Through the years, we’ve seen them performing better and better, to the point where they are now the default choice for many newcomers to the Android market, as well as people who’re already experienced with it.
It’s not just about hardware though – Samsung have also been experimenting with their prices, and they seem to be getting closer and closer to hitting the sweet spot. Currently, people are very satisfied with the prices of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, and it looks like Samsung shouldn’t even make any further changes if they want to keep everyone happy – and their own pockets lined nicely.
The fact that they chose to avoid any price raises for this release speaks rather clearly about their satisfaction with their current position on the market, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the next releases in the Galaxy line followed a similar trend as well.
Meanwhile, Samsung haven’t forgotten their older devices, as they’ve just made their own Music Player available to the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and the Galaxy Note 5. The app initially debuted around the release of the newest flagships, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, and it looks like Samsung are going to expand it to various other phones in the near future.
Users have been more or less satisfied by the app’s performance so far, though a quick glance at forum threads can show that it clearly still needs some polish, and there are various issues that need to be fixed. In some cases, the issue boils down to user preference, but that of course doesn’t mean that such feedback is worthless. In fact, we expect Samsung to keep making fine adjustments to the app over time in order to make it even more suitable for the needs of their user base, and if they integrate it better into their own devices, they could really have a popular music player on their hands.
It looks like the app is already out of beta at this point, so we expect any future updates to be aimed at improving stability and overall performance. Of course, it also wouldn’t be surprising to see new features and adjustments to the interface. There is a lot that can be done with a mobile music player nowadays, and many companies are still trying to find a good design. Even Sony, who have a lot of experience under their belt from the Walkman line, have been struggling somewhat to come up with a truly good design.
