“Red Dead Redemption 2” is still surrounded by a shroud of speculation more than anything, and the rumors about the game are going strong. It appears that, behind the scenes, the game is coming along quite nicely, and Rockstar are already discussing its potential release date internally. According to rumors, the game may arrive as early as Fall 2015, despite there being no official announcement yet. This would be a bit unusual for Rockstar, who like to hype their releases very early on, but the company has been changing certain trends in its development style lately, so this might not be that surprising.
And while Rockstar are reluctant to give an official confirmation that the game is in development yet, some of the rumors are reportedly coming from people very high up in the development chain, including senior engineers on the development team. And the information they’re revealing actually contains a few more surprises than most fans were expecting.
It appears that Rockstar aren’t just working on “Red Dead Redemption 2” at the moment, but they’re also in the process of remastering the original game, and are planning to release it for the PS4 and Xbox One. “Red Dead Redemption 2” itself has been rumored to be coming to the PC, not just next-gen consoles, but it’s not known if these rumors extend to the potential remaster as well, or if that’s a completely separate project with its own release schedule. There are hints that the remaster of the original title might be released a few months before the sequel, however.
If the rumors are true, and everything goes according to Rockstar’s plans, the company should make the official announcement at E3 in 2015, followed by the actual release of the game in November.
Something else that’s sparked some active discussions related to the title lately, has been the revelation that “Red Dead Redemption” is now included in a special database owned by Microsoft, which stores compatibility information about various games and how they perform on Windows. The original RDR was never released on the PC, only on consoles, but its recent addition to Microsoft’s database lists it as compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8. Microsoft and Rockstar have been equally quiet on this and have refused to say what the game’s presence in the database means, but for most fans the answer has been obvious. It’s likely that Rockstar are gearing up to release the original game on the PC as well, which could mean a very exciting year for fans of the franchise all around, regardless of their choice of platform.
