Season 8 of the American crime drama TV series “Castle” moves into its last few episodes with the showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley already heaving a big sigh of relief as ABC has renewed the show for a ninth season.
The renewal was in stark contrast to most of the rumors and speculations that have been going around the internet since last year, saying that Season 8 of “Castle” could be its last given the continuous dip in its ratings during the current eighth season.
However, Winter and Hawley said that they will work on the Season 8 finale as if it is to be the show’s last which means that they will tie up all loose ends and get a fresh start come Season 9.
Apparently, they are now looking at a case-of-the-week approach per episode come Season 9 to give the viewers the satisfactory feeling after watching each episode the way they have been accustomed to watching most crime drama TV series today.
Putting a closure on the LokSat storyline
One of the more intriguing storylines on “Castle” Season 8 is the LokSat story. It was actually the reason why Kate Beckett, played by Stana Katic, became so protective and worried about the safety of her husband Rick Castle, played by Nathan Fillion, which led to their breakup.
It was also the reason why fans of “Castle” expressed their revulsion against the showrunners for coming up with such a convoluted plot.
Since then, Rick and Kate have gotten back together and have agreed in the process to work on shutting the LokSat down, especially considering that Rick also has some memory problems while trying to figure out what happened to him during his missing time.
Somehow, the two co-creators were right all along when they said that the separation was important to the storyline. It is just unfortunate that most of the fans of the show took it on its face value, notes Cartermatt.
Coming clean about his past
The upcoming 16th episode of “Castle” Season 8 to air on ABC on April 4 will see Esposito, played by Jon Huertas, telling his colleagues the truth about his ex-fiance Sonia.
Esposito had to tell the other members of the 12th precinct as they will investigate the murder of an armored car driver who may be related to Sonia, notes Design & Trend.
The case was apparently handled by Esposito years ago when he got into a relationship with Sonia. He finally told his peers about it because he wants to come clean about his past, which would be instrumental in finding out the truth about the driver’s death.
Upon learning that Esposito not only dated but was actually engaged to Sonia, both Rick and Kate were in disbelief because he has not told them about it.
But Rick cushioned the emotions when he said that there is nothing wrong with a police officer getting into a relationship with a criminal because it is a workplace romance. It was sarcasm which Esposito also realized and delivered his own sarcastic remark as well.
Esposito, later on, explained that he did not have any idea that Sonia was a criminal because she seemed rather normal when they first met. He told Kate that he only knew that Sonia was a crook when they were already engaged.
The show aired its episode 15, titled “Fidelis Ad Mortem” on March 21 after a two-week break, where Castle and Beckett were tested once again over a case where Beckett discovered the truth about an NYPD Academy Killer that was on the loose.
‘Caskett’ needed to work to unmask the NYPD Academy killer who has been using the NYPD training to kill. Beckett got thrown into the case as she has a protégé in the academy who was the next target of the killer.

Wonderful, terrific, great to have the series renewed. Now I want to hear that Stana and Nathan have signed their contracts.
With regard to the one case each episode and ” that is the way fans have grown accustomed to watching most crime dramas today” duh who would have guessed that that is what Castle fans want also. Really though I had realized that the break up, lies, hiding things from each other was to make their marriage stronger it was hard to take at the time.
Goodby to long inane story lines and hello to rewarding case per episode format. What is good for CSI, NCIS, Mash, The Closer, Major Crimes, etc. certainly should be good for Castle again.
The show hasn’t been renewed for a ninth season.
The show has been renewed; the show hasn’t been renewed. Who knows? Only ABC and ABC is known for not keeping their information up to date if at all. However, major officials at ABC have stated that they want Castle for a ninth season with the present cast. This, of course, is dependent on the cast signing new contracts and that alleged statements made by ABC executives have been quoted correctly. So here the real issue is why do we read these articles and respond to them?
The former head of ABC Paul Lee wanted Castle to be renewed, but there was a reason he was forced out by his boss the head of Disney. Castle has not officially been renewed. Nathan Fillion’s contract negotiations stalled when ABC got a new president.
I’d like to see any evidence that Winter and Hawley were right about their decision to split Caskett up and for the ridiculously contrived reason they did.
It was a stupid decision and the fact that they didn’t even have the characters try to explain it to Martha/Alexis or Espo/Ryan is just further confirmation that they KNEW how stupid such an explanation would sound. Just a passing reference from Lanie: “Glad you guys are back together.”
Rarely have showrunners so underestimated their audience’s intelligence.
