Samsung has officially but quietly launched the 2016 versions of its Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 midrange smartphones in China and the devices will eventually make it to the retail markets in a couple of months’ time or possibly around the time when its predecessors complete their one-year market cycle in June.
Prior to the official unveiling of the latest iterations of two of its J-series handsets, most of the reports about the Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Galaxy J5 (2016) were mostly based on leaks, rumors, and speculations.
The latest midrange smartphones from the Korean tech giant featured improved specifications from their respective predecessors. They also come with a sturdy and sculpted metal unibody, making them similar to the Galaxy A series smartphones of Samsung, details 9to5 Google.
One thing that is sure to catch the fancy of consumers with the new Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 is that their prices will reportedly approximate that of its predecessors, making them extremely competitive in the midrange smartphone market.
The best in the Galaxy J series
The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) is obviously the best device in the Korean tech giant’s Galaxy J-series lineup.
It is available in unique colors including sand gold, silver white, and metallic pink. Most of the specifications prior to the launch of the device were right on cue.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) features a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display as well as a large 3,300 mAh battery. Its 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front snapper also feature f/1.9 aperture and 1,080-pixel video recording capability, details the GSM Arena.
It is powered by an octa-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. The Galaxy J7 (2016) has a dimension of 151.7 x 76 x 7.8 mm and weighs 170 grams.
The smartphone also offers LTE connectivity as well as NFC capabilities. Amid the official launching of the two midrange smartphones in China, Samsung has not stated anything about the prices or when are the devices officially coming out to the markets or whether they will be made available at all outside of China.
False report
Prior to its official unveiling recently, there were some false reports about its specifications. Sometime late in January, there were reports that the then upcoming Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) midrange smartphone will come out with a very generous 4,300mAH battery. But it has been clarified early this month that the handset will come with a 3,300mAh power source, which would be a 300mAh improvement from its predecessor.
No less than the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the US made the confirmation when it recently certified the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016), also following its certification by the Bluetooth SIG.
The current Galaxy J7 was launched by the Korean tech giant in June of last year and it came in two processor variants – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and the Exynos 7870 chipsets.
One of the two processor variants of the original Galaxy J7 unveiled last year had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset so there are also reports going around that Samsung might opt to raise it a bit by using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC with the Galaxy J7 (2016).
Based on the FCC certification back then, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) shall have a Super AMOLED display with 1080 resolution. It shall also have a 13-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper. The smartphone shall also be capable of supporting dual SIMs. These features were actually accurate.
While the Samsung Galaxy J7 and its sister phone, the Galaxy J5, were launched only in June last year, its probability of getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is only 50%.
