The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 16 May See Someone in Mystic Falls Dying, Hints Ian Somerhalder

The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7 returns on April 1 after a three-week hiatus and while death isn’t something new to Mystic Falls, Ian Somerhalder’s latest interview with TV Guide suggests that someone important may say goodbye in episode 16.

Zap2it notes that the last time the show lost a truly important member was when Matt Davis’ Alaric Saltzman died. However, he managed to come back alive and human again.

The website reports that even Nina Dobrev, who was undoubtedly the most important person in the series, managed to exit the show. The writers, however, left her character still alive just in case she decides to make a comeback.

The upcoming episode, entitled “Days of the Future Past,” will see Damon offering to have Paul Wesley’s Stefan’s scar magically transferred to him. However, he discovers that by doing so comes with unexpected consequences.

Leslie-Anne Huff’s Rayna also closes in on Stefan while Valerie, played by Elizabeth Blackmore attempts to reason with Damon before time runs out.

As for Michael Malarkey’s Enzo, after being framed for breaking Rayna out of The Armory, Enzo attempts to clear his name, but not before a run-in with Scarlett Byrne’s Nora forces him to make an upsetting discovery.

Fans of the supernatural drama are excited to watch the episode as it will finally link the flash forwards viewers have been treated to in the past episodes this season.

Ever since the beginning of the season, flash forwards have been shown either in the beginning or at the end of an episode to unravel the fate of certain characters three years from now.

Also, the episode is directed by Somerhalder himself. The 37-year-old actor has followed the footsteps of his onscreen brother in directing episodes of The CW series.

Somerhalder says that the episode will be interesting to watch because it answers certain mysteries left unexplored after the big reveal in episode 15.

The episode won’t see yet how Kat Graham’s Bonnie and Enzo started falling in love or how Caroline, played by Candice King, and Stefan really broke up and the reason why Caroline hates Stefan so much.

Graham and King won’t be appearing in this episode which makes it the first episode this season not to feature any female leads. King won’t appear due to her maternity leave.

Executive producer Julie Plec adds that starting from this episode, answers will be given in a form of bridge backs or a series of scenes that flash back to what happened over the three years that have passed since Damon went into the coffin.

In his latest interview, Ian says that the episode is about telling the story of the Mystic Falls group and how they are all intersecting. Somerhalder somehow slipped and blurted that they lost some wonderful and beautiful characters in the episode.

Further teasing a death of a character, the “Lost’” alum hinted a tragic scene involving an exploding car. He adds that the audience isn’t going to get the blast that he felt. Instead, they are going to feel heartbreak for why the explosion happened.

Speculations say that since most characters are seen alive during the flash-forwards, those who weren’t present in any will probably meet their demise — specifically the heretics Nora and Mary Louise, played by Teresa Liane.

These two have been dubbed as antagonists and protagonists at the same time. Reports say that either one of these heretics will meet their death by the episode’s end.

In the episode’s stills released by The CW, Mary Louise seems to be in some sort of a hospital bed. Speculations say that The Armory could have taken her after Nora’s death.

There are also speculations saying that Rayna will be the one who dies, but fans know from the last episode that Rayna only has one life left and if she is killed, everyone with her huntress’ mark — including Stefan — will die along with her.

The Inquisitr notes that it will be impossible for producers to kill off Rayna as she’s one of the best antagonists in the TV series since Chris Wood’s Kai.
