Apple have been making some odd moves lately, but for most of their fans they’re apparently going in the right direction. The company seems to be trimming down some of their lines at the moment, and there were even rumors that we might see the end of the famous iPod line, as Apple were reportedly looking into focusing more on their smartphones and tablets. In any case, they’ve recently announced the new iPhone SE, and responses to the device have been somewhat mixed.
The device is a compact version of the standard iPhone design, and while some enjoy the idea of a smaller iPhone, others apparently see it as less appropriate for the current trends on the market. There does seem to be some tendency to favor larger devices lately, but there is still plenty of room for a smaller-sized smartphone, especially one under the iPhone brand.
On the topic of size, it’s also interesting to note that the negative responses seem to be coming mostly from people who aren’t actual Apple fans. The company’s own followers are actually happier about the idea and it looks like Apple have managed to please the interests of their community once again.
The phone’s hardware definitely makes up for any negative impressions left over from the physical dimensions, on the other hand. There is a more universal voice of acceptance here, as most people agree that the iPhone SE packs some serious power under its hood and it’s an attractive entry into the iOS family. The price of the device is the cherry on top of this, as it will cost just $399 in most markets, quite the low price for an iPhone.
Of course, not all components of the new device are top of the line, both compared to Apple’s own previous offers as well as the smartphone market in general. There have been some obvious compromises here and there, but the final result is a package that looks more than capable of being a great everyday phone for the average user. It should even be able to satisfy the needs of most power users, and Apple have managed to strike a perfect middle ground.
It’s also interesting to note that the iPhone SE seems to be drawing the attention of some Android fans as well. The relatively low price of the device combined with its great feature set have generated a lot of buzz on the market, and it looks like this phone might have the potential to change the minds of even some more hardcore Android fans out there. Of course, we don’t expect any more major changes to happen overnight, but it would be interesting to watch if Apple manage to grab a bigger portion of the market in the near future. They already have quite a lot of the market in some areas, but they can obviously always do better.
The main complaints by most fans seem to be aimed at the physical design of the device. According to some, it looks a bit dated and imitates a design that should be in the past at this point. On the other hand, some have been more favorable towards the new iPhone, claiming that it actually has a classic charm and should be a nice, refreshing addition to the iPhone line after the company’s most recent releases. It’s not clear which of those camps is going to prevail as they both seem quite vocal right now.
