Filming for Season 5 of the American crime drama TV series “Longmire” on Netflix is slated to start this week and some of the cast of characters are excited to be back on the set.
One of those is Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays the role of Native American belonging to the Cheyenne tribe, Henry Standing Bear. It was actually the 54-year-old “La Bamba” actor who recently confirmed on Twitter that production for “Longmire” is set to begin soon.
However, what has been giving Phillips the excitement is the fact that the episodes of Season 5 will be one hour long each, which is about 18 minutes longer than the episodes of the previous seasons, which stand at only 42 minutes each.
With that being said, the longer time for the popular modern-day Western thriller would enable the showrunner to shed light on some of the other key characters in the TV series for Season 5 including Lou Diamond Phillips’ character.
As every fan of “Longmire” knows, Henry Standing Bear is the closest friend of TV series main protagonist Walt Longmire, played by Robert Taylor, and they have been working together in several of the latter’s police investigation, notes MNR Daily.
The last time that Henry Standing Bear was seen in the TV series was last season where he was shown trying to help another female Cheyenne tribe member who was raped by a couple of locals.
With more time for each episode, the showrunner and the writers can start considering giving every cast of character a focus on their respective backstories so that viewers would appreciate each and everyone in the TV series.
Phillips could only express elation of the possibility since at one point in his career several decades back, he was used to having the limelight shone on him. These days, however, he is already contented playing support to more popular actors of the current generation.
While there has been no confirmation yet from Netflix or from any production crew or staff, reports have it that Season 5 of “Longmire” is set to debut in September this year.
Picking up from the Season 4 cliffhanger
Latest reports also have it that the first episode of Season 5 of “Longmire” shall directly pick up from the Season 4 finale where an intruder broke into the house of Longmire and interrupted the intimate moments of Walt and Dr. Donna Sue Monaghan, played by Ally Walker.
Apparently, Season 5 will immediately reveal the identity of the person who broke through Walt’s front door.
Some are saying that it could be a person who has an old score to settle with Longmire and headlining the suspects is Walker Browning, played by Callum Keith Rennie, the oil rig foreman whom Henry shot and was arrested by Walt.
Browning was hardly seen at the Season 4 conclusion and some are saying that he may have come to Walt to seek revenge for losing his job and getting wounded.
There are also insinuations lately that the target of the intruder was not Longmire but Dr. Monaghan. Other possible suspects are Jacob Nighthorse, Walt’s long-time enemy, and also Dr. Monaghan herself, who could possibly be working with Walker Browning, notes Breathecast.
All these, however, remain as speculations and viewers would be able to figure out the real answer when Season 5 of “Longmire” makes its long-awaited and widely-anticipated return to Netflix in the second half of this year.
A possible romantic future?
As far as the possible plotline for “Longmire” Season 5 is concerned, latest reports have it that Sheriff Walt Longmire and his Deputy Sheriff Victoria ‘Vic’ Moretti, played by Katee Sackhoff, will have a possible romantic future in the show.
The speculations started swirling when the “Longmire” Facebook page showed a profile of Walt and Vic together with the caption asking for the future of the two characters in the TV show.
