The 2015 Jeep Wrangler is quite the successful launch, getting lots of positive press lately. Critics have been praising the great package of features that Jeep are offering for the relatively low price tag, although some have been criticizing the tire quality. While the new Jeep performs overall well on all kinds of terrain, its handling in off-road use has seen some negative reactions.
And it seems that Jeep are already thinking very far ahead into their line, as some recent findings are pointing at some of the features of the 2018 edition of the Wrangler. Earlier this month, the company filed some documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which were referring to an 8-speed automatic transmission system. This was rumored to be coming before, although Jeep themselves never confirmed it, plus the rumors originated from some rather unreliable sources.
The 2015 Jeep Wrangler already has an automatic transmission system, and one that’s received a lot of praise for its performance – but it only features five gears, not eight like the 2018 model allegedly will. Additionally, the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler should significantly improve the gas mileage of the model, although the vehicle’s performance is already quite good in this regard in the 2015 edition, with an average of just under 20 mpg.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is expected to come out in late 2017, and Jeep are reportedly going to release more detailed information about the vehicle by the end of 2016. There’s still plenty of time to go until then, and it’s likely that some of the model’s specifications may change – although the 8-gear transmission is definitely staying, considering the company is already trying to get it approved through various official channels. Nothing else has been confirmed officially about the new 2018 edition of the Jeep Wrangler so far, but it’s expected that Jeep will make some radical changes in the vehicle’s design, given the time period until its release, as well as their progress with the Wrangler line so far.
On the outside, the Wrangler has been going through some major overhauls lately, although the base structure remains the same. Jeep are expected to make the frame significantly lighter by replacing core materials with aluminum, which should make the new Wrangler an even better choice for off-road driving. Of course, this still leaves the problem with the tires, but this is something the driver can easily change on their own, while Jeep have also stated that they have taken note of the negative reception that their last models saw in this aspect, and are taking the necessary steps to fix the situation for their next release.
