‘Super Smash Bros 4’ Unlikely to Receive a New Update or DLCs; Is Super Smash Bros 5 Along the Way?

The last character DLCs to the Nintendo fighting game “Super Smash Bros 4” came on February 3 when Bayonetta from the same-titled game and Corrin from “Fire Emblem Fates” arrived, initially via Nintendo eShop.

Officially called as the DLC Bundle 6, gamers were able to download the new character DLCs through version 1.1.4. It came out with a price of $15.48 for one platform and $19.88 for two Nintendo gaming consoles.

The release of the final “Super Smash Bros 4” character DLCs came out as a bittersweet feeling for gamers since they also knew that the game shall no longer see any substantial update. Apparently, Nintendo is looking to end things for “Super Smash Bros 4” with a bang, notes iDigital Times.

With that being said, there are now speculations that Nintendo may already be busy working on the development of the “Super Smash Bros 5” which would likely come out in the Nintendo gaming consoles within a few years time.

“Super Smash Bros 4” has been released on the Nintendo Wii U and the 3DS gaming consoles so its successor game will most likely be unveiled in the same platforms, with the possible inclusion of the company’s latest gaming console, the NX.

While Nintendo has yet to make an announcement or statement regarding the “Super Smash Bros 5,” critics are of the opinion that the Japanese gaming company would surely not want one of its most prolific gaming franchise to end just like that. It is very likely that Nintendo is now in the thick of development with the game but does not want to say anything about it until they have something concrete to show for it.

Skepticism with new character DLCs

When Bayonetta arrived, she was priced at $6 on either Wii U or the 3DS but if gamers decide to get Bayonetta for both platforms, it only cost them $7. Corrin, on the other hand, was retailed for $5 for either the Wii U or the 3DS and $6 for both.

Gamers have some initial skepticisms when Bayonetta and Corrin were officially announced. They were initially worried that the two character DLCs could be another Mewtwo release where players waited for hours for it to appear on the eShop.

True enough, the two character DLCs showed up on the afternoon of February 3rd at the Nintendo eShop.

Bayonetta came with the Umbra Clock Tower stage and two costumes reflecting her look in the original 2010 game and 2014’s Wii U-only “Bayonetta 2.”

The character was the overall No. 1 choice worldwide among Smash Bros fans when they were asked to nominate DLC characters for the game, details Polygon.

Corrin also came to the game on February 3 along with new Mii Fighter costumes.

Second to the last DLC

On December 15 last year, Nintendo had its final Super Smash Bros Direct presentation where it made the announcement regarding the release date of the next DLC character in the fighting game “Super Smash Bros 4” which has previously been confirmed as the cult-favorite Cloud Strife from the role-playing game “Final Fantasy VII.”

Several fans and gamers also thought that Nintendo shall possibly make an announcement regarding the arrival of one or two more DLC characters other than Cloud Strife.

When Nintendo previously announced its Super Smash Bros Direct, it actually hinted that it would dwell on Cloud Strife and more. The ‘more’ part of the hint is what’s exciting gamers because they are hoping and optimistic actually that it could well be a new DLC character or two. A few weeks later, it became clear that the two characters were to be Bayonetta and Corrin.

super smash bros

Nintendo recently pulled a big surprise for “Super Smash Bros 4” on 3DS and Wii U gaming platforms when instead of characters that were rumored to be coming to the game, it was somebody else that the company announced.

It was a good surprise for gamers to say the least as the next playable character that shall come to “Super Smash Bros 4” is the cult-favorite Ultima Weapon-wielding Cloud Strife from the role-playing game “Final Fantasy VII.”
