Those who’ve been waiting for a new iPhone should be patient for just a little longer, according to the most recent rumors, as the company is apparently planning to reveal the iPhone 5SE, the next in line, on March 15. The announcement won’t come on its own as it will be accompanied by news about other devices, the same rumors claim, so it should be a pretty interesting month for Apple fans, all things considered. The iPad Air 3 in particular has been the subject of a lot of attention, and the possibility of seeing that device revealed in the next month has struck many fans as interesting.
What will the new iPhone 5SE offer exactly? The device will apparently be aimed at the same market segment as its predecessor, the iPhone 5S, so it should preserve the price level of the original phone, although it will of course come with better hardware to make up for the time that’s passed since then. We don’t know exactly how much better the new phone will be compared to the old one, but reports indicate that it should be future-proof for the next major iOS releases for at least a couple of years.
That’s always a reassuring sign for Apple’s fans, as the situation on the modern smartphone market is definitely shaky when it comes to the releases of new major OS versions. Companies can sometimes delay these by quite a bit, or on the other hand not make them available for certain devices, so knowing that Apple are trying to make sure that their users will be safe in the near future is a good sign for their fans.
Other than that, they are supposedly also launching new straps for the Apple Watch, and while there are some other more minor rumors about updates around that line, we haven’t really heard anything more concrete yet. Apple got plenty of details right with the launch of the Watch, but at the same time they also left people with mixed impressions once they had had some time to play around with the device, so it would make sense for the company to at least address its situation right now.
Meanwhile, there has been a major controversy on the iPhone 6 front, as a recent update to iOS has resulted in many bricked devices. The problem is apparently not caused by any accident however, and it was a purposeful move by the developers meant to target “unsafe” third-party components for the device. More specifically, users who have non-original home buttons will find their device giving them an “Error 53” and unable to boot or be restarted. According to reports, a device in this state is “bricked”, meaning it can’t be used, at least not until it’s been recovered by an authorized specialist, and even that might not always be possible depending on the circumstances.
According to reports, the situation actually has a very good reason behind it – the home button also includes the fingerprint scanner for the device, and there was apparently concern about the security of the iPhone 6 when used with a potentially compromised scanner. However, it’s very controversial at the moment if Apple’s approach was the right one, as many users are currently extremely frustrated with their inability to use their devices, and it looks like this could actually cost Apple some of their fans in the long run.
