During the premiere season of the American superhero drama TV series “The Flash” on The CW, the main nemesis of the Scarlet Speedster is none other than Eobard Thawne, the alter ego of the Reverse-Flash.
Eobard Thawne travelled back in time and when he lost his power to get back to the future, he took on the persona of Dr. Harrison Wells, played by Tom Cavanagh, to help The Flash become very fast as Eobard’s key to returning to the future.
During the Season 1 finale, Eobard Thawne as Harrison Wells disintegrated after Detective Eddie Thawne shot himself, being the ancestor of Eobard, thus ending the life of the Reverse-Flash as well.
The current second season of “The Flash” shows Barry Allen and the Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick battling a speed demon called Zoom. Dr. Harrison Wells from Earth 2 showed up again on Earth 1 and claimed that he was the one responsible for creating Zoom, notes Screen Rant.
While it seems clear during the fall finale episode of “The Flash” Season 2 in December last year that Harrison Wells from Earth 2 is different from Zoom, many keen fans believe that Eobard Thawne from Earth 2 is Zoom.
A more powerful speedster
He may no longer be the Reverse-Flash in Earth 2, but Eobard Thawne could actually be Zoom and that is the reason why the storyline has not been introducing another character that could actually point to the identity of the alter ego of the speed demon.
In Season 1, viewers knew towards the early half of “The Flash” that Harrison Wells or Eobard Thawne is the Reverse-Flash. In the current second season, the only possibility of the identity of the villain was Harrison Wells again.
But it was clear that Harrison, or Harry to the S.T.A.R. Labs team, that he was also under duress to bring “The Flash” to Zoom or the speed demon will kill his daughter, which the villain has been holding hostage.
Thus, fan notions that Eobard Thawne is Zoom may be accurate. It can be recalled that back in Season 1, the Reverse-Flash is the more powerful speedster than The Flash. On the current second season, Zoom is more powerful again with the Scarlet Speedster.
However, these are mere fan speculation at this time and only during the Season 2 finale of “The Flash” will viewers would finally know who Zoom is. It could be known earlier than the Season 2 finale but it would no longer come as a major surprise to viewers by then.
An odd episode
The 11th episode of Season 2 of “The Flash” titled “Fast Lane” that aired on January 26 featured an amazingly inconsequential villain as Tar Pit.
TV.com thinks that Tar Pit was just a dull mean to a good end. The episode also saw Iris getting injured in Wally’s street racing.
The outlet believes that “The Flash” showrunners should start having Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin, and Wally West, played by Keiynan Lonsdale, interact with one another. Wally is the last cog in the West family that needs to be incorporated.
Harry also keeps on coming clean about his betrayal of The Flash and the S.T.A.R. Labs team because he wants to rescue his daughter from the hands of Zoom.
The Harry and Barry tipping point and the double-layered West plot are two plotlines that were more than enough for the episode that the villain Tar Pit only served as a useless decoration in the show.
Meanwhile, a fan-favorite character of “The Flash,” Iris West, will finally move on from the death of her fiancé Eddie Thawne during the Season 1 finale episode.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says that the back half of Season 2 of “The Flash” will see the journalistic and romantic aspects of the life of Iris West, played by Candice Patton, taking center stage.
Apparently, she will build on the knowledge that her mother Francine is alive and that she has a brother.
