‘Person of Interest’ Season 5 Premiere Date will Happen on Spring and not on Summer of 2016, Confirms CBS Boss!

Season 5 of the American science-fiction crime drama TV series “Person of Interest” on CBS will premiere in the spring of 2016, contrary to previous reports that it will air in the coming summer to shore up the network’s weak programming during that period.

No less than CBS President Glenn Geller confirmed during the Television Critics Association winter press tour held recently that the fifth season of “Person of Interest” would premiere on the network in spring this year, although he did not disclose an exact date, reports the Ecumenical News.

Geller’s statement shut down rumors that the network is saving the sci-fi drama TV series for summer since CBS has no longer renewed two of its summer science-fiction TV shows – “Extant” and “Under the Dome.”

Intensive marketing and promotions

As part of the intensive marketing and promotions strategy of CBS to drumbeat Season 5 of “Person of Interest,” its fourth season has been made available on Netflix beginning on December 30.

Considered by many as the best science fiction show on broadcast TV in recent years, “Person of Interest” was once the most watched TV series on the small screen.

Meanwhile, it appears that the rumors about Season 5 being the last season for “Person of Interest” are proving to be on target.

While the first four seasons of the show had an average of 22 episodes, the upcoming Season 5 shall only have 13 episodes. That is also what the network did to its previous TV series “The Mentalist” before wrapping it up after seven seasons.

It seems that the network just gave the showrunners and director enough episodes to tie everything up and give the TV series a closure so that fans would not feel dismayed.

One other major situation why critics believe that Season 5 of “Person of Interest” is going to be its last is when the network recently announced the official lineup for its midseason schedule and the TV series was no longer there.

“Person of Interest” used to be the flagship TV series of CBS during its midseason but due to the show’s poor ratings during its fourth season, it has become a lesser priority for the network.

Previous reports also say that Season 5 of “Person of Interest” will premiere on CBS in the summer of 2016 although up until this time, the network has yet to make an announcement on the specific premiere date.

All praises for the director and showrunner

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams, who happens to be one of the producers of “Person of Interest,” have nothing but praises for the series director/creator and creator, Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman, respectively.

Abrams made the remark after his statement that Season 5 of “Person of Interest” might be the show’s last sparked controversy as some felt that his statement insinuated that the people behind the show caused its non-renewal for Season 6.

On the contrary, Abrams said that he fully support and loved the show and that Nolan and Plageman did an amazing job on the TV series, notes Movie News Guide.

Person of Interest

While the CBS president did not say anything about the official cancellation of “Person of Interest” after its Season 5, he did say during the TCA winter press tour that the fifth season of the TV series could function as both a season and series finale.

Geller also confirmed that Nolan and Plageman have planned a terrific season for “Person of Interest” with big surprises and that fans and viewers of the show would be very much satisfied.

The CBS boss also said that the network has ordered 13 episodes for Season 5 and they hope to get them on the air in the coming spring.

  1. Thank you CBS for letting tv series to wrap up its show even if it’s only 6 or 13 episodes. This is better than not having an ending at all.

  2. Why end it at all? Sort out any differences with stars and staff. CBS hit on a gold mine with this series, yet they are going to throw it away. For once we get a show that treats us as adults, and not some whining kid in the corner that needs placating. Too many brain dead shows on TV now, nothing for the intelligent mind to ponder over. A good show is thought provoking and remains in the mind, sometimes for days, other shows seem to last as long as getting off the chair to turn the TV off to go to bed.

  3. Yes, you have to think to enjoy this show…thank you Barb for saying it. This is one of the most thought provoking and intelligent shows I’ve watched and I am quite discerning about what I will give my time to as life really is short. Please CBS…realize and promote intelligent programming!
