German automaker Mercedes-Benz is not pulling any punches when it officially unveiled its tenth generation E-Class recently as a 2017 model at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
The company is taking a big step into the future with its latest E-Class, which it is positioning as the most intelligent luxury sedan when it hits the motoring retail markets towards the second half of this year.
The 2017 E-Class exudes great style with its distinct, emotional design and high-grade interior. It also marks the advent of numerous technical innovations which are meant to enhance driver and passenger comfort and raise the level of safe driving further.
It also comes with a new dimension in driver assistance and a new infotainment and control system. The luxury sedan also comes with an option to be equipped with air body control air suspension which ensures outstanding ride comfort and driving dynamics.
All these technological breakthroughs are what make the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class as the most intelligent luxury sedan by the time it comes out of the market soon.
As what the previous reports have said, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class indeed got a visual design that is far more dynamic than its predecessor.
A different variant of the E-Class
However, instead of the usual model or models that have already been described on the internet, Mercedes-Benz rolled out a different and rather new 2017 E-Class variant at the Detroit auto show, reports Jalopnik.
Instead of the previously-reported engine variants of the luxury sedan, Mercedes-Benz launched a 2017 E-Class that features a four-cylinder gasoline engine for the first time.
During the North American International Auto Show, it was revealed by officials of Mercedes-Benz that the 2017 E-Class will be available in the US with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can exude 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque complemented by a 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission, which shall only be made available upon official launch.
It would be the first gasoline four-cylinder engine in the E-Class stateside, while the outgoing generation currently has a four-pot diesel option.
Following the sibling’s strategy
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class borrows the exterior aesthetics of the S-Class, the way that the C-Class also did. It also put emphasis on the interior material quality, making it two-thirds of an S-Class, details Auto Blog.
It also features a similarly-shaped grille and headlights in front. The trunk and taillights of the E-Class at the back are similar to the S-Class as well.
The E-Class is the core of the Mercedes-Benz brand and has repeatedly redefined the standards in the business class segment. The new generation sedan intends to bring that tradition into the future with its wealth of top-class innovations. The 2017 E-Class will also take another major step towards fully autonomous driving.
The last time that Mercedes-Benz released an E-Class was early in 2014 but the 2017 version of the sedan, featuring coupe and cabriolet models, will have an encompassing upgrade that the brand deserves.
Although the E-Class has long been a staple in Mercedes-Benz’ roster, the 2014 model has nonetheless struggled to keep up with the more popular models of the German carmaker. It is described as undersized and also overpriced.
It was for such reasons that the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class shall be released to redeem the misgivings of its predecessor and it seems that it is on the right track considering that the upcoming variant has utilized the carmaker’s new MRA architecture.
The E-Class redesign has been confirmed to be as comprehensive as the one previously made by Mercedes-Benz on the C-Class and the S-Class.
When it officially comes out later this year, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class shall compete head on with the likes of the 2016 Audi A6 as well as the upcoming 2017 BMW 5 Series.
Several snapshots of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class were taken while the vehicle was still wearing camouflage and cladding while undergoing test runs.
