TV shows have been in a bit of a renaissance lately, as we’ve seen multiple great productions over the last few years, and networks have been getting more and more creative with their ideas, not to mention open to taking risks. Because of this, the overall nature of most productions has shifted towards some controversial themes and we’ve been able to enjoy works that we would have never dreamed of before. When “Narcos” arrived to the screen, it told the story of Pablo Escobar in a very interesting way, captivating the audiences and making them more positively minded towards the legendary drug dealer.
And after a very strong first season, it was only natural that people would expect the show to return with a bang once the producers were done preparing season 2. Work on the new season has been coming along somewhat nicely, according to most reports and rumors, but we’ve also heard stories that paint the situation in a different light, with claims that the showrunners might be experiencing certain difficulties and that the show could come back with a delay as a result.
One of the details that were revealed recently was that Chris Brancato has departed from the production and it’s not known how the crew of showrunners will be rearranged as a result. The situation doesn’t sound that grim, to be fair, and it’s entirely possible that the producers will find a way to keep the ball rolling without making any negative changes to the production, but we won’t know for sure until they make any official announcements about their current situation.
And if there really are any problems behind the scenes, we expect that the producers might keep quiet about that for some time, until they can get a grip on the situation and make a proper statement to their fans. On the other hand, if things get out of control and the production starts going downhill, we expect that the people behind it won’t be able to hide the facts for too long, and eventually we will hear about what’s going on.
In any case, there are other potential issues with the new season that some people have pointed out, such as the fact that the possible events that can be shown in the upcoming episodes aren’t realistically that many. The show is, after all, based on real-life events, and it tells the story of Pablo Escobar mostly accurately. Because of this, there is not much time left in the actual real-life timeline for season 2. The way the first season ended gave the implication that season 2 will lead up all the way to Escobar’s death, which would mean that the show will have to come to an end after just two seasons. According to many, this is an inherent problem with a show based on a premise like that, and the producers must have planned for it accordingly very carefully before getting started on their work.
There is speculation that the show doesn’t actually have to end with Escobar’s death though. The name of the production, and the way the first season focused on some of its characters, gave the impression that the show might actually continue after that event, picking up the story afterwards and bringing other characters to the spotlight. However, we have no idea which characters those might be and how the show could focus on them exactly. As can be expected, fans are guessing all sorts of interesting things.
