After it was revealed that “Frozen 2” was in development after so much speculation, fans started wondering what they could see in the new film and where the story could possibly go. There are many different possibilities right now, and the way the plot of the first film was handled definitely leaves the doors open for the producers to go in many directions. There are some things to be considered with regards to the story though, especially given the duration of time that will have passed between the two.
This could actually be a bigger problem than once thought, as it was recently reported that the film is not going to arrive until at least 2018. That’s a long time to wait – even more considering when the original came out – so fans might have a different attitude to the sequel once it’s actually been released.
One of the things to consider, and a point that has been brought up more than once in fan discussions, is the fact that fans of the original film will have grown up quite a bit by the time “Frozen 2” comes out. Will this have any implications on the story? According to many, it’s very likely. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense for Disney to keep all their fans waiting for so long only to end up disappointing them with something that doesn’t live up to their expectations.
On the other hand, they must also attract new fans to the franchise, and if they released something new in the same style as “Frozen” itself, they could easily get a lot of success for the franchise as a whole, bringing some fresh attention to the first film. Both are equally interesting possibilities, and Disney are a company that knows its audience very well, so we are not sure what direction they might decide to move in.
For what it’s worth, there are reports that the new film might take the story in a slightly different direction, exploring some new themes that were not present in the original film. Among those, we’ve heard claims of LGBT themes being inserted in the production, as well as other possibly controversial themes. According to many, it’s great that Disney are featuring such ideas in their popular production if this turns out to be true, as it would be a great way to bring attention to these problems in a way that can actually make people interested.
The focus on various characters could change somewhat as well. There are, for example, reports that we may see Elsa and Anna in a new light, although we are not sure if there are any positive implications to that. The rumors have been a bit mixed and it’s claimed that the story could actually change in some questionable ways that will make it even more controversial among people familiar with the original. Hopefully, Disney are not going to ruin the way we see some of our favorite characters.
Olaf might be given his own love interest in the new film as well, as this is another rumor that has been going around for a while now. We have no idea what that could be about and if the relationship will be anything serious or if it will be just the foundation for some lighthearted humor, but we certainly hope that they will figure out something interesting to do with the character instead of just using him in a low-key way like they did in the first film.
