It’s been a fun ride for fans of the series, but there has been speculation that “Uncharted” is coming to an end with the next installment. This was initially based on the name the game’s been given – “A Thief’s End”, but was subsequently reinforced by rumors allegedly coming from within the development studio. The company hasn’t officially confirmed that they’re planning to end Nathan Drake’s adventures with this installment, but it’s not out of the question, given that the company now has another highly successful franchise on their hands.
Sony, on the other hand, have been dropping hints about the possible end of the series, although they have also been reluctant to confirm the rumors as of yet.
Naughty Dog, the studio developing the game, stated that the release of the PlayStation 4 came at the right time for them. The console’s much improved development platform has apparently allowed them to more easily continue their work on the next installment in the series, and the studio is hoping to really impress fans on all fronts once “Uncharted 4” is out. The game will feature better graphics, gameplay, and a more involved story that will reportedly keep keen players glued to their seats from start to finish.
It’s not known when exactly the game is supposed to come out yet, but the developers have recently hinted that this might happen quite soon. No official confirmation has been given in this regard, although Naughty Dog are known for meaning anything they say, even small remarks, so it’s very possible that they weren’t lying when they said that the game is close to completion. Of course, “soon” could very well mean months in the context of game development, so fans shouldn’t get too excited about the possibility of playing the next “Uncharted” too soon.
The game will go in detail about the story of the protagonist, something which has never really been explored in much depth in the previous installments, and a commonly requested feature by fans. While the lack of information has created a mysterious aura around Drake, it has also prevented some players from associating with him during their plays, which the developers have seen as a problem.
“Uncharted” has been heavily inspired by “Tomb Raider” for its basic premise, and considering how well developed the story of Lara Croft is, it would make sense that Naughty Dog don’t want to be left behind in this regard. Developing the personal aspect of the protagonist could be an excellent way to end the series, as it will give fans something nice to remember the whole experience by, as opposed to leaving them hanging with a myriad of unanswered questions.
