Various rumors are going around regarding the HTC One M10, and it looks like the device could be a real winner if the company puts some effort into it. There are lots of unknowns about it still, but one thing is becoming clear from the general tone of the rumors – HTC want to get back their former glory which they somewhat lost with the release of the One M9, and the company is determined to make things right with this phone. After all, they brought us one of the most successful and prominent flagships on the Android market, so it makes sense that they would be able to do it again if they put a lot of effort into it.
The rumors about the device vary, and some are quite vague and talk about features in a general, “overview” fashion, while others are more specific and discuss the actual potential specifications of the phone. Of course, as with all rumors about a major piece of technology, they should probably be taken with a grain of salt and fans should remember that many people love to spread around misinformation just for fun.
Anyway, some of the rumors about the specifications of the phone are repeated more often than others, including the fact that it could have a Quad HD display and a Snapdragon 820 processor, as well as a dedicated graphics card. The camera could be either a 13 or a 20 megapixel model, depending on which rumors one wants to believe, and the exact specifications vary from one claim to another but it’s rumored that HTC could come up with something a bit more special in their imaging department this time.
Other than that, it’s said that the phone will be more or less similar to the One A9 in terms of its remaining specifications. That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, as the A9 was a pretty successful release itself and many people were happy with how the device turned out, even though it wasn’t the major flagship that some were hoping for. If the One M10 turns out to be a One A9 with some new internals, it could definitely be an interesting release and worthy of a serious mention in the market.
When is the device coming out? That’s another question that seems quite difficult to answer, and the rumors in this regard are somewhat conflicting. While it’s pretty clear that it’s not planned for a 2015 release at this point, we don’t know at what point during the next year we should realistically expect it. HTC might decide to bring it out early in the year in order to get their foot in the door more successfully, or they might also want to wait out a little longer in order to give other companies a chance to make their own releases and scout out the market more adequately. Either way, it’s hard to make any predictions at this time.
HTC themselves have been somewhat secretive about the phone too, which is easy to understand as the company likely has a lot of pressure to get this release right. The responses to the M9 were mixed at best, and people weren’t expecting the device to come out in such a state, which meant that the otherwise good specifications of the phone were mostly ignored as everyone was paying attention to their expectations and not the bigger picture.
Tell us, what is the bigger picture about the M9 we are missing and that makes it a great phone?
The M8, was not a one hit wonder. It was a phone developed with taking into account the feedback on the M7 and they did that marvellous. Personally I really dislike the black bar on the front of the phone with the HTC logo and not that much into the quality of external speakers but apart from that the M8 delivered.
What is mindblowing is this article holding on to the idea the M9 failed solely due too demanding expectations of the public. When Samsung released the S5 it was crushed for using the same design language and minimal upgrades even though the phone was actually better than the S4 even with its minimal upgrades and uninspiring design.
Now HTC made that same mistake with the M9. A third iteration of the same design used on the M7, a battery performing less good than the M8, a screen that also was of less quality like the M8 even though the specs of it were the same and a high MP camera which took disappointing photos so is it really the issue the public expected too much or is it just too hard to admit HTC really screwed up with the M9, relying too much on the praised metallic design and boomspeakers while the incremental upgrades didn’t offer any improvements and in fact performed less than the M8? And I am not even mentioning the issues with the 810 SoC which aren’t HTC’s fault but it made the public hesitant too.
No, let us admit, let us be honest. The M9 is not a good phone even though its specs suggest otherwise and public expectations aren’t the reason why it didn’t sell. Samsung learned the hard way and now HTC did even though Samsung still released a S5 which was better than the S4. Something HTC can’t say about the M9 compared to M8 if leaving raw SoC power out of the equation
The s5 was not much better. The one A9 however does show a step in the right direction. If HTC can use a similar design language with great specs, camera, display, and boomsound…they would have finally made a damn near perfect phone.
