‘The Winds of Winter’ Author George R.R. Martin Claims Travels and Interviews Caused the Writing Delays!

Not too long ago in one interview, critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin claims that he is such a slow writer and that it is the reason why “The Winds of Winter” is taking so long to be released to bookstore shelves.

“The Winds of Winter,” is the sixth book of his fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” where the popular HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” is based.

Martin said back then that he wished he could write faster so that he can meet deadlines and thus release the book on time. But then he said that there is just no way for anybody to make him write faster because he follows his own routine.

However in a most recent interview during the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, Martin said that it is not his slow writing that caused the delay but actually the travels, the interviews, and all other commitments outside writing that were the culprit for it, notes The Inquisitr.

No problem with writer’s block

The author said that writer’s block is not to be blamed on the cause of the delay but the plenty of distractions all over him.

He explained that all of the work that he has been doing other than writing his novels create problems because those are all distractions. Because the books that he has written have become so popular, he has to do interviews every now and then. He also needed to travel constantly.

Martin said that he gets to be invited to travel to South Africa or Dubai and he is not about to pass up those free trips.

He admitted that he does not write when he is on travel and he does not write while he is on his hotel rooms or on airplanes. He said that the only way he can write is when he is on his own house undisturbed.

He said that most of his life, nobody was bothering him but now, he gets bothered almost every day. He also stated that he has assistants and minions whose main job is to make sure that people don’t bother him so that he can get his writing done, but apparently, the interview itself indicates that a lot of things still pass through his assistants.

Not coming out before ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6

With 2015 about to draw to a close, it is very likely that “The Winds of Winter” will come out next year.

Previous reports indicate that the release date window for the “The Winds of Winter” will be any time from January to early April 2016, prior to the Season 6 premiere of the popular “Game of Thrones” TV series on HBO.

While HBO has yet to come out with the official premiere date of “Game of Thrones” Season 6, what it clear is that it will happen on a Sunday night in April, which many critics believe will be on April 24.

The April 24 premiere date of Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” also means that George Martin has until April 23 to officially release “The Winds of Winter.”

Reports have it that the major reason why Martin is holding the release of “The Winds of Winter” because the book is to be the ultimate spoiler for Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.”

The Winds of Winter

Once the book is released, fans and viewers of the popular TV series would already know what shall happen in practically all of the 10 episodes of Season 6. In fact, there are even reports that “The Winds of Winter” will also detail some of the plotlines for Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” set to premiere on HBO in 2017.

There were reports that came out early this month that a manuscript of the book would finally be released on February 23, 2016 based on a blog posted on Wars and Politics of Ice and Fire.

  1. I hate this logic. Not wanting the book to spoil the show? How about not wanting the show to spoil the book! The show is based on the damned book, it’s always been a spoiler ffs. If it takes five years to release Dream of Spring though, what will the show do? I doubt Winds has five seasons of Co tent, especially with portions of Season 5 being taken from it. They’ve f**ked this up royally. Whatever they do, book releases should never be inhibited by the show.
