When Disney decide to make a sequel to one of their more successful releases, this always means that they’ve thought it through very carefully and have at least a few ideas up their sleeve. “The Incredibles” has been due for a sequel for quite some time now, and it was the subject of a lot of speculation from the studio’s fans in recent months. However, up until recently, we didn’t have any official information about the film, not even a confirmation that it exists.
Recently this changed when it came to light that the sequel was indeed on the table, but from what director Brad Bird told his fans, the wait might be far from over as the studio is still in very early stages in the production of the new film. Apparently, even the script hasn’t been finalized yet, with various ideas being juggled around. Obviously Brad Bird isn’t going to reveal any major plot details even if they have already been decided on, but it doesn’t make much sense for him to outright claim he isn’t done with the script if that’s not the case.
Certain rumors about the new film have been repeated multiple times already however, leading some fans to wonder if there might be some truth to them. For example, we’re hearing more and more often that Jack-Jack could have a more central role in the plot of the film, but it might not be as positive as some fans are expecting. The character could change a lot for the new production, and there is speculation that he could actually be the villain of the story.
This coincides with rumors that Syndrome will be present in the new film as well, even though he was seemingly killed at the end of the first one. The story around the character is very suspicious in general, and there are claims that he could exploit Jack-Jack’s situation to convert him to his side.
More specifically, if the rumors are true, Jack-Jack will be in a difficult period in his life, still trying to figure out how to properly use his powers and what his place in the world is. Syndrome will come out of the woodwork and take him under his wing, teaching him his evil ways and causing major conflict with the boy’s parents.
On one hand, this sounds a little far-fetched, and it could also be a bit disappointing to fans if the writers really did decide to resurrect Syndrome, as that could be a bit of a cliched development. Reviving supposedly dead characters is something that doesn’t always work out, especially after it’s been used so much by writers already. And in addition to that, we are inclined to trust Brad Bird when he claims that the plot of the film isn’t finalized yet.
But on the other hand, it’s starting to get a little too difficult to ignore these rumors given the frequency of their repetition. We aren’t sure how the rumor started in the first place (as is usually the case with these things), but if so many sources are repeating it right now, there might really be some credibility to it.
We will find out for sure sooner or later in any case – definitely before the film arrives to the screen. The more general outline of the plot would be impossible to conceal once the film gets closer to completion.
