As promised by Twentieth Century Fox, it has released the first official trailer of “X-Men: Apocalypse” attached to the world’s next official blockbuster film, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
While the trailer looks good and well-made, a talented YouTuber named Philysteak actually made an even better rendition by coming up with a mashup trailer by infusing the existing official trailer with footage from the animated TV series “X-Men” back in the 1990s, reports Newsarama.
The result is not only fantastic, it actually looks better, which Cinema Blend describes as 1,000 cooler than the official trailer.
Obviously, PhilySteak knows his X-Men ABCs as Apocalypse was first seen during the “X-Men: The Animated Series” on TV.
Since Apocalypse is being realized in live action when “X-Men: Apocalypse” hits theaters on May 27, 2016, comparisons are being made between the character in the movie and the classic cartoon. But instead of making a comparison, Philysteak decided to mash them up together in his version of the trailer and enabled viewers to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Two different periods in X-Men history
More than just mixing up two renditions of Apocalypse, what Philysteak did was create a cool mix of two different periods in X-Men history.
The exaggerated facial expressions of the animated characters lipsynching the dramatic lines delivered by the live-action actors really make for an entertaining watch.
But there is an obvious takeaway as the Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men movie is way too different from how the Apocalypse in the cartoon appears.
The animated version of the villain looks massive and muscular like the one in the comics while the one in the live-action appears to be more regal.
But one thing they share is that they have enough power to wreak destruction across the globe that only the collective efforts of the X-Men can stop him.
Interestingly, most of the other X-Men are present in both the official and mashup trailers including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Havok, Psylocke, Storm, and Magneto. Archangel also gets to be one of the Four Horsemen and joins Pestilence, Famine, and Death.
Early promotional boost
With the official trailer of “X-Men: Apocalypse” attached to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the upcoming movie immediately gets a massive audience and early promotional boost.
As early as last month, X-Men franchise producer and co-writer Simon Kinberg confirmed the scheduled showing of the first trailer of “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
Kinberg confirmed then that the movie’s first trailer will be on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and that the teaser will be longer than a minute and shall feature a ton of cool stuff in it.
‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is the final movie of the second X-Men trilogy that began with “X-Men: First Class” shown in 2011 and “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” shown last year.
In addition to featuring younger versions of the previous characters during the first X-Men trilogy, the second trilogy also featured more new and exciting mutants, with the exception of Wolverine, who is still being played by Hugh Jackman.
But the director said that the movie is long for a good number of reasons and the most important of them is the fact that “X-Men: Apocalypse” needs to effectively wrap up the entire series.
Singer said that the movie’s cuts are a little long, but the overall film is going to be a longer “X-Men” movie. He explained that in his past “X-Men” movies, he usually endeavor to keep it under two hours. However, he feels that it may not be the case for “X-Men: Apocalypse” because it actually wraps up a total of six movies.
Apart from being the longest “X-Men” movie ever according to Director Bryan Singer, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is set to become a glorious conclusion to 15 years of cinematic history.
