All the riches that Michael Schumacher have accumulated during his prolific career as the world’s greatest Formula One racer are what his family seems to be using on him to ensure that he recovers from his current physical dilemma.
According to reports, the legendary Formula One champion is recovering very slowly amid an extensive rehabilitation program in his home in Geneva, Switzerland.
Unconfirmed reports have it that Schumi has 15 medical experts attending to him every day and using advanced medical equipment built specifically for his treatment. Medical analysts, in fact, pointed out that Michael’s rehabilitation is costing him and his family an astonishing £100,000 weekly or more than US$150,000, details the Christian Today.
Because of the high cost of his medical maintenance and recuperation, Schumacher’s wife Corinna has already sold the racers 34 million Euro jet or about US$37.2 million.
At a weekly expense of $150,000, the $37.2 million would be good for 248 weeks or about four years and a half. It must be really tough for the family to sustain him just to make him well again.
Corinna is reportedly planning to sell the family chalet in France for a yet undisclosed amount, the sale of which would help expand Michael Schumacher’s medical expense budget.
Slow signs of progress
Nearly two years after his skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, Michael Schumacher is still battling his life’s biggest ordeal.
While information has been scarce about the true state of his medical condition, there were reports early this year saying that Michael is still suffering from paralysis. After getting revived from a coma through medical induced means, the former F1 racing champion is reportedly showing signs of slow progress.
Apparently, he has opened his eyes but still cannot speak. He can already sit but cannot move much and as such, he sits on a wheelchair most of the day.
However, his family led by his wife Corinna and children Mick and Gina Maria, are always hopeful of a full recovery to their patriarch. They are reportedly praying every day that Michael will continue with his recovery path and be well again.
Even the close friends and fans of the German racer remain optimistic of his chances of complete recovery despite slow progress, indicating how well-loved Schumacher is as a family man, a friend, and a sportsman.
Hard time to cope up
Because of Schumacher’s slow recovery vis-à-vis the high cost of treatment, rumors are also saying that the family is now having a really hard time coping up.
But the dilemma does not stop Schumi’s family from believing that his health condition will improve and they continue to give the former racing champ their full support and love, notes The Bitbag.
Sabine Kehm, Michael’s manager, disclosed recently that the racer’s health condition is improving. In a recent interview, Kehm said that Michael’s condition is improving based on the severity of the head injuries he had back in December 2013.
He said that it will indeed take a very long time for everybody involved to fight and everyone is happy to take the fight.
One of Michael’s closest friends who is always hopeful and optimistic of the F1 legend’s full recovery is Ross Brawn, the former team principal of Ferrari and Mercedes.
Brawn recently disclosed that he has been at Michael’s home on the shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland a number of times since the racer got discharged from the rehab facility in September last year to recuperate with a specialist team of nurses and doctors to help his recovery.
