While New York City-based game developer Rockstar Games has yet to come up with an official statement or announcement regarding its upcoming open-world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption 2,” speculations appear to be pretty consistent that it would be released early next year on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
Reports also have it that the PC version of “Red Dead Redemption 2” would come out a month after the game’s official release on the gaming consoles, similar to what Rockstar did with the release of “Grand Theft Auto V” in October last year.
In addition to the rumors about the possible release date of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” the speculations are also pretty consistent when it mentioned that there will be three main characters in the game.
According to a Redditor, who goes by the name of AnonDN1978, “Red Dead Redemption 2” shall have three playable characters. Accordingly, the first two characters will be Iris and Seth. Iris is said to be bank teller from Kansas City while Seth is someone from Ireland who migrated to America.
The goal of the two main characters is to look for hidden treasure. Both characters will meet in Tumbleweed, Texas. The third character will apparently be created by the players, and will be a gun-for-hire of sorts, quite like the playable character in “GTA V,” notes the Parent Herald.
Getting louder
Reports also have it that based on the rumored plotline of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” it is not going to be a sequel but a prequel of “Red Dead Redemption.”
The information is actually based on another disclosure made by AnonDN1978 saying that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will be set 12 years prior to “Red Dead Redemption,” which really makes the upcoming video game a prequel.
The Redditor also talked about several features of the game including a third playable and customizable character, purchasable safehouses, and a gang system that will enable a player to join various gangs or even ride with a posse of law enforcement officers, notes the Daily Express of UK.
AnonDN1978 claims that he was a former employee of Rockstar Games and that he hates his former boss at the game development company that is why he decided to spill the beans on the game ahead of an official announcement from Rockstar.
He was also the one who revealed that the official title of the upcoming game shall be “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West.” He also revealed that main protagonist John Marston in “Red Dead Redemption” will not be coming back in the next game, which makes sense because “Red Dead Redemption 2” timeline is 12 years earlier.
If that is the case, then the previous rumors that Jack Marston, the son of John Marston, will be the main protagonist for “Red Dead Redemption 2” is not accurate at all because his character would be too young if the game is set a dozen years before “Red Dead Redemption.”
Based on the subtitle of the game “Legends of the West,” it also makes sense if the upcoming game is to be a prequel since legends usually refer to people, events, or things from the past.
Cryptic confirmation of the game
While reports on “Red Dead Redemption 2” has been making the rounds on the internet for quite some time now, nothing is actually confirmed since game developer Rockstar Games has not said anything about the game thus far.
However, Danny Ross, a former employee of Rockstar has recently taken to Reddit to confirm the sequel to the massively popular “Red Dead Redemption,” which was released way back in 2010.
Although it is possible that the Danny Ross on Reddit is not the real Danny Ross who was an ex-employee of Rockstar, but the one on Reddit actually responded to fan questions on what should gamers expect from Rockstar.
