When HBO released a poster and then a short teaser trailer of the popular TV series “Game of Thrones” for its upcoming Season 6, the network only alluded that the show would come out in April.
As to when exactly in April will Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” premiere, HBO has yet to make an official announcement.
Apparently, the network is still looking at making some Sunday night programming adjustments beginning early next year to ensure that the widely-popular TV series based on the critically-acclaimed fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” written by critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin comes out in April.
Previous reports said that because of the full-packed Sunday night programming of HBO beginning in February, the earliest that Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” can come out is May 1, 2016.
Apparently, HBO has two TV series premiering in February next year for its Sunday night programming. The two shows are “Vinyl” which will roll out on February 14 to be followed by “Girls and Togetherness” that will premiere a week later.
The two new series completes HBO Sunday night programming with “Show Me a Hero.” The three shows would finish out their seasons all at the same time on April 24. Given such scenario, “Game of Thrones” cannot premiere on HBO anytime from April 24 or earlier because its usual timeslot is well occupied on that dates.
But HBO eventually shunned all the speculations by releasing a poster featuring the bloodied face of Jon Snow, played by Kit Harrington, and simply putting a caption-title to it of April.
Lately, reports have it that Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” will premiere on April 24. However, HBO has yet to make an official announcement to confirm or deny the air date of the popular and widely-anticipated TV series.
Ramping up the excitement
In order to further ramp up the excitement for Season 6 of “Game of Thrones,” HBO has released another footage featuring three of the main characters of the TV series.
The short clip showed Cersei, with her hair growing back following her Walk of Atonement during the Season 5 finale, hugging her son King Tommen.
It also featured a slightly dishevelled Daenerys Targaryen out in the wilderness. And finally, there is Ramsay Bolton accompanied by his bannermen getting ready for battle, details the Independent of UK.
Those are the fresh clips and the rest of the footage shows other scenes taken during Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” or earlier.
The real parents of Jon Snow?
The Telegraph of UK reported that Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” may also focus on the real parents of Jon Snow.
Every fan of the TV series knows that Jon Snow is the bastard son of Lord Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark and an unknown female.
But according to the site, Ned Stark is not the real father of Jon Snow based on fan speculations. There were also rumors that the mother of Jon Snow could be anyone from Cersei Lannister to Ashara Dayne, to a lowly tavern whore.
However, the most pressing theory about Jon Snow’s parentage is that he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, the brother of Daenerys, and Lyanna Stark, the sister of Ned Stark. Lyanna was supposed to be married to Robert Baratheon, but she died.
These speculations are mostly fan theories so everything should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Meanwhile, a recent image leak from the ongoing production seems to have given a major spoiler for the show’s upcoming season.
The image leak is being referred to as the ‘Reunion’ although it does not appear to be one. Accordingly, the image shows Jon Snow, played by Kit Harrington, Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, Ramsay Bolton, played by Iwan Rheon, and Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish, played by Aidan Gillen, in one scene at Winterfell’s courtyard.
