Season 6 of the British period drama TV series “Downton Abbey” will make its final curtain call in the UK on December 25 and a trailer for the last episode of the show has already been released by ITV in London.
In the US, Season 6 of “Downton Abbey” is set to premiere on January 3, 2016 on PBS and the network has also released a promo trailer showing some of the show’s funniest moments, details the Christian Today.
Over in the UK, “Downton Abbey” is left with a single episode and the Christmas Day special will wrap everything up.
Based on the trailer released by ITV, the characters are shown starting to say their sad goodbyes in the midst of celebrating the holidays.
As if to chronicle the evolution of the popular TV series, Downton Abbey butler Thomas Barrow, played by actor Rob James-Collier, made a fitting remark as he bids goodbye to the staff by saying that he arrived in the estate as a boy and is leaving as a man.
The Christmas episode also features a scene during the estate’s New Year’s Eve celebration. It also showed Mr. Carson, played by Jim Carter, initially getting reluctant to accept the changes that are happening but eventually realized that neither he nor anybody can stop it.
He was also quoted as saying that the world is a different place from the way it was and Downton Abbey mush change with it. Another emotionally-filled scene is that which features the Dowager Countess Violet, played by Maggie Smith, explaining to Isobel, played by Penelope Wilton, that New Year’s Eve celebration always makes her smile because they always drink to the future, whatever it may bring.
Show’s funniest moments
While the Christmas special trailer of ITV is heart-rending, the promo trailer of PBS in the US is a bit on the lighter side as it decided to put together a montage of some of the funniest moments in the show’s five-year history.
The trailer showed Molesley’s hair treatment to Lady Violet’s encounter with a swivel chair in Matthew’s office. Molesley was played by Kevin Doyle while Matthew was played by Dan Stevens.
It also features Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery, going for a dive in the pigpen of the great soup battle between Spratt, played by Jeremy Swift, and Denker, played by Sue Johnston, details Zap2it.
And as expected, the funniest in the video clip is that of Mr. Carson practicing the way he wants to answer the new telephone at the estate. Running at second is definitely the scene involving Molesley getting drunk and dancing at Shrimpie’s Christmas festivities. Shrimpie was played in the TV series by Peter Egan.
A season of resolution
When Season 6 of “Downton Abbey” premieres on PBS on January 3, fans can expect resolutions from all the burning questions and loose ends of the show in the course of six seasons.
Jessica Fellowes, the niece of “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, says that every cast member and production team member knows that Season 6, being the final one for the critically-acclaimed TV series, will be the season of resolution.
She said that the TV series will guarantee that there will be no stone left unturned and every fan of the show will get a sense of ending eventually.
Jessica is the author of the brand new coffee table book “Downton Abbey” based on the TV series. She says that the book is a must-have for fans who can’t get enough of the popular period drama.
She added that fans could see Bates, played by Brendan Coyle, and Anna, played by Joanne Froggatt, continue to look for their eternal bliss.
Jessica said that the problem is that Jessica and Anna are very good and decent people. She says that his uncle needed to throw obstacles to these very good and decent people and show viewers how they manage to overcome life’s difficulties.
Fans should expect to see Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes, played by Phyllis Logan, getting married, Jessica said.
